Heeol Hair Gangnam Flagship Store (희올헤어 강남본점) is a hair salon in Sinnonhyeon, between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station. My root frizz had grown out quite a lot and styling it was becoming a chore, so I went to Heeol Hair, a Gangnam Station salon known for magic setting (a straightening perm)!

From Gangnam Station Exit 11, walk straight toward the CGV building and turn right. The building is pretty big, so it was easy to find. If you drive, you can use the Daiso Gangnam Station branch lot or the Gangnam Jump Milano lot, with up to 4 hours of parking. (Support hours may vary by treatment, so I'd recommend asking.)

It's 100% reservation-only, so booking ahead is a must! My hair is a medium-length bob, so I booked designer Hyeonju, who specializes in medium-length layered cuts, build perms and C-curl perms.

The interior is upscale and calm ✨✨ The wood-tone furniture adds a warm feel, so I was comfortable the whole time I was being taken care of.

Since magic setting takes a long time, I went for the first weekday slot at 10 a.m., and it was nice and relaxed ☺️ (I'm an introvert who gets drained in a hectic salon... haha)

The shampoo area is very clean too 〰️ The restroom is inside the salon, which is handy, and they thoughtfully provide mouthwash and cotton swabs 👍🏻

A messy back view after a layered cut: how did the consultation go?

We started with the most important part, the consultation with Hyeonju. We decided to tame the root frizz with magic straightening, match the length with a layered cut, then add a natural C-curl perm. I had a magic setting in March and kept growing it out, then recently got a layered cut. A lot of the permed part got cut off, so the back view felt really messy 🥹 On top of that, the frizz at my roots had come back, so I needed an overall straightening, and I wanted to tidy the lower layers too.

Kind Hyeonju first asked what style I wanted, then took my opinion into account and settled on a plan. Straighten the root frizz cleanly with magic, match the length with a layered cut, then a natural C-curl perm that's neither too heavy nor too light. She didn't just recommend whatever is trendy; she advised on what suits me and is easy to style, and I loved it... 🤍🤍

The Heeol Hair magic setting process

Cleansing shampoo and root treatment

Before the magic, we began with a cleansing shampoo, then the root treatment was applied carefully. Hyeonju's hands were very meticulous, and she paid close attention, asking me to tell her right away if anything felt uncomfortable or painful.

After the treatment, while the machine did its work, I waited with the coffee and snacks they gave me, then rinsed it all out refreshingly. The staff did the mid-process shampoo, and it was comfortable as always.

Pressing the root frizz and winding a loose C-curl

Next is the most important step, pressing. The root frizz, which had grown out quite a bit, is straightened carefully section by section. Hyeonju even took delicate care with the side hair, which matters a lot to me 👍🏻

She adjusted the strength when winding so the lower curl wouldn't tighten into an S-curl 〰️ I always want a natural look, so I asked for the loosest C-curl possible, and she took care of that too.

Neutralizing and scalp pressure massage

The last step, neutralizing, is done lying back at the shampoo area! The magic setting takes about 3 hours in total, so I was a little tired, and finishing with a scalp pressure massage felt so refreshing and good 👍🏻

How did it turn out after the magic setting?

After the Heeol Hair magic setting, my hair looks neat and calm. It tamed the root frizz while adding a bit of volume, and the C-curl at the bottom came out naturally, so I'm happy with it. Best of all, it's easy to style, so my morning getting-ready time is shorter. Totally satisfied 😉
