Ttangkkeut Maeul premium sashimi takeout from Noryangjin Fish Market

Why is buying sashimi at Noryangjin Fish Market so hard?

At Noryangjin Fish Market, the tanks all look alike and it's hard to tell which price is the right one. If you've been, you know: the moment you walk in, people call out to you from both sides. The tanks look the same, you can't tell which price is fair, and you often end up buying from just any shop.

That was me every time, too. So this time I wanted to properly find a good sashimi place in Noryangjin Fish Market. But why does buying sashimi in Noryangjin feel so difficult in the first place?

Where is Ttangkkeut Maeul in Noryangjin Fish Market?

Ttangkkeut Maeul (땅끝마을) is a sashimi restaurant right in front of South Gate 1 of Noryangjin Fish Market, at live fish stalls 42–43. The yellow sign stands out, so it wasn't hard to find. They say it has held its spot in the market for a long time, and I heard it has been featured on the YouTube channel "English Man" and MBC's "Welcome, First Time in Korea?"

How was Ttangkkeut Maeul's takeout packing?

The premium sashimi came packed in a silver cooler bag with an ice pack and plastic wrap. I took mine as takeout this time, and even at a great sashimi place in Noryangjin, poor packing would be a letdown.

They put it in a silver cooler bag and even set an ice pack on top of the sashimi. It was wrapped carefully in plastic wrap, so I worried less on the way home.

They also packed plenty of sauces: chili vinegar sauce (chogochujang), ssamjang (seasoned dipping paste), 4 soy sauces, and sushi seasoning.

Small premium sashimi platter: portion size and taste

The small premium platter was quite generous for something called small. When I opened it, bluefin tuna and salmon sat on top of the white fish, with radish sprouts, wasabi and pickled ginger on the side.

The first piece I picked up was the sea bream. The red color on the skin side was so vivid that my eyes went straight to it, haha.

The salmon was cut thick, and even a single piece fills your mouth, which I found very satisfying.

The white fish were a mix of kinds, so it was fun picking them out one by one.

Does Ttangkkeut Maeul takeout include spicy fish stew ingredients?

Along with the sashimi, Ttangkkeut Maeul also packed fish and seasoning for maeuntang (spicy fish stew). And that wasn't all. Honestly, this turned out to be more useful than I expected.

Fish and seasoning for spicy fish stew from Ttangkkeut Maeul

Since the fish and seasoning were provided, I filled in the vegetables with what I had at home: green onion, tofu, carrot, onion and minced garlic, and boiled it all up.

You just add the seasoning they gave you and boil it. There's no need to adjust the flavor yourself, so even people who aren't confident cooks won't find it a burden. Sashimi once, then stew once more! It felt like one shopping trip gave me two meals.

Want to eat sashimi right at Noryangjin Fish Market?

If you want to eat Ttangkkeut Maeul's sashimi right at the market, I hear they also run their own table-service restaurant, Haneulchae Byeolgwan (하늘채별관). It has a hall and private rooms, so it's recommended for family gatherings or company dinners too.

Is Ttangkkeut Maeul's premium sashimi takeout worth it?

At Ttangkkeut Maeul the prices are fixed on the menu, so there's little haggling stress, and the takeout packing even includes the ingredients for spicy fish stew. If you're looking for a good sashimi place in Noryangjin Fish Market, I recommend enjoying one platter of sashimi plus the stew. Next time I'd like to stop by again in winter amberjack season, haha. Do you boil up a stew too when you bring home sashimi?
