Hapjeong kaisendon date set with yellowtail and uni: Makise Hapjeong
In short
Makise Hapjeong is a Japanese restaurant specializing in kaisendon (a sushi rice bowl you scoop up bite by bite), in an alley across from Mecenatpolis near Exit 8 of Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. On an after-work date, the writer ordered the 50,000-won A set with kaisendon for two, cheese fries and one drink. The seasonal yellowtail with uni and the cheese fries with their honey-like sauce stood out. Makise Hapjeong is a Hapjeong kaisendon spot where the bite-by-bite style makes eating easy on a blind date or any date.

I visited Makise Hapjeong, a great pick for a date in Hapjeong. It's a tidy kaisendon place in Seoul and a perfect restaurant for a blind date. It's famous for what people call "scoop-up sushi," and thanks to the owner's care and the seasonal raw fish, every single bite made me happy~ Here's my honest review, including parking and reservation info!
Where is Makise Hapjeong, and is it easy to find?
Makise Hapjeong is at 391-5 Hapjeong-dong, Mapo, Seoul, a 7-minute walk from Hapjeong Station Exit 8. It sits in a quiet alley across from Mecenatpolis. If you don't like the crowds of Hongdae and Hapjeong, this kaisendon spot in Seoul is a well-placed choice.

Makise Hapjeong hours and reservations
Makise Hapjeong is open 11:30-21:00, with a break from 15:00-17:00, and closed every Monday. Since it's a popular Hapjeong date spot, I hoped I could reserve, and of course I could. You can book through Naver reservation~
Makise Hapjeong parking
For parking, use the lot at 471 Hapjeong-dong. It's ₩4,000 per hour, which is pretty reasonable for a busy area.
I (Naradungi, that's me) went on a date after work, and I was glad it's not right in the draining Hapjeong crowds. Even a full-on MBTI E gets tired by a crowd;; I praised myself for the great location and walked in!
For waiting, you just write your name on the waiting list, but if you book ahead like I did, no waiting needed!! ☆
What's the atmosphere like at Makise Hapjeong, and is it good for a blind date or date?
The interior feels a bit like an izakaya (Japanese pub). They actually sell drinks and sashimi too, so some people stop by on the way home from work to unwind. The lighting and temperature were just right for me. You could probably drink solo at the bar table too!

There's also a small hall inside, and before it there were seats where just the two of you can sit cozily. If you come here for a Hapjeong date, a seat like this is quietly nice. I felt a comfort of not being disturbed.

Further inside there are three tables, and they let us two sit at a four-person table, which I loved! The spacing between tables was just right, too, so it felt comfortable.

The entrance is a full glass window, and I kind of coveted that seat. A date evening with a view outside! Even the atmosphere of this Hapjeong kaisendon spot is special!
Makise Hapjeong menu and how to order
At Makise Hapjeong you order on a table tablet, and there's a separate paper menu too. I've included both the tablet menu and the paper menu, so check whichever is easier for you! If you come for a date like me, I recommend a set for two!

After ordering, I spotted signatures from celebrity visitors! Kisum has been here too, so it's a Hapjeong favorite. Nice nice.

While waiting for the food, read up on how to eat kaisendon well! Join the receipt event too and be sure to grab your freebie. Makise Hapjeong is actually pretty good at fried food.

Get your stomach ready with the tasty hovenia tea (heotgae-su) and the clear soup.

What comes with the ₩50,000 A set at Makise Hapjeong?
The Makise Hapjeong A set is ₩50,000 and comes with two kaisendon, 2 pieces of cheese fries and one drink. It's a reasonably priced set for two to enjoy.
- Two kaisendon
- 2 pieces of cheese fries
- One drink
I usually like to order different dishes from my companion and share, but since this is a kaisendon place in Seoul, I somehow wanted to enjoy a whole bowl of my own, so we chose the same menu!!

How did the kaisendon at Makise taste?
The kaisendon at Makise Hapjeong is topped with appetizing seasonal fish, and just looking at it made my mouth water~ Since you scoop it up piece by piece, it's perfect for a blind date where wolfing food down is awkward, a real Hapjeong sushi spot! The plating is great.
Thick slices of yellowtail, which is in season right now, were awesome! Fatty fish like salmon and tuna generally go really well with rice. It gave a kind of meaty feeling.

Grilled Spanish mackerel, sea bream, squid, and uni, a whole load of delicious seafood! Left, right, whichever angle, Makise's kaisendon looks pretty from everywhere~!

They give you dried seaweed so you can wrap bites too. The pickled radish in the middle seems to be homemade, and eating it now and then when things get rich has a great texture, too~ Good!

A Hapjeong kaisendon spot with lots of ways to eat! Piece by piece, however you eat it, it's insanely delicious. I love that there's so much to go with it. It just slides right down!

Recommended combo: seasonal yellowtail with uni, tuna in dried seaweed
In particular, Makise's kaisendon shines with seasonal yellowtail plus uni. And tuna, of course, is even better wrapped in dried seaweed.

Eat the cheese fries before they cool
The cheese fries in the A set stretch and stretch, so eat them before they cool. They're packed with mozzarella and so delicious!! They come with a sweet, honey-like sauce, and the combo tasted like eating gorgonzola pizza!!

The ending for a place I recommend for a Hapjeong blind date: empty bowls. I scraped everything clean!! My companion liked it a lot too. Even on a blind date, you can scrape your bowl clean without looking greedy, so I really recommend this scoop-up sushi kaisendon!
Makise Hapjeong restroom
The restroom at Makise Hapjeong is inside the restaurant and is unisex. It was clean and nice to use. Good good.
Verdict: Makise Hapjeong for a Hapjeong date or blind date
That's my verdict on Makise Hapjeong, a tidy blind date restaurant I recommend for dates in Hapjeong~ Even if it's not a date, it's a great place to go with friends or family you like! The owner makes everything with care, so it lives up to the title of a great kaisendon place in Seoul, and I don't think you'll regret it!
