Gwangalli fish restaurant, 500°C Atka & Spanish mackerel: Hwadeogeuro
In short
Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Gwangalli Waterside Park Branch is a grilled fish restaurant on the 2nd floor of Minrak-subyeon-ro in Suyeong-gu, Busan, where you eat fish grilled in a 500°C wood-fired oven while looking out at Gwangan Bridge. We shared the oven-grilled Atka mackerel set (₩17,000) and the oven-grilled Spanish mackerel set (₩19,000), added gondeure-bap (Korean thistle rice) for ₩2,000 each, and kept going back to the self-serve banchan bar for tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and braised lotus root. The Spanish mackerel at Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo was especially thick, crisp outside and moist inside, and very satisfying.

I'd been craving nicely browned grilled fish, so I headed to Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo, a place that's been popping up all over lately haha. Eating grilled fish while looking out at the sea in Gwangalli...? This felt like a spot I could bring my parents to, or enjoy casually on a date!
Plus, the Suvyeon Children's Park public parking lot is just a 1–2 minute walk away, so parking was easy, and they even offer parking support when you dine in, so coming by car was no hassle at all.

Second-floor window seats with a full view of Gwangan Bridge
Heading up to the second floor, the Gwangalli scenery opened up beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows. Eating warm grilled fish in a seat facing Gwangan Bridge felt pretty great.
What stood out most was that even though it's a grilled fish place, the ventilation was excellent, so my clothes didn't end up reeking of fish — such a relief! The restaurant was also spacious and clean, which made it feel perfect for family meals, dining with parents, or group gatherings.

What we ordered: Hairtail Set ₩17,000, Mackerel Set ₩19,000
We ordered the Hwadeok Hairtail Set (₩17,000) and Hwadeok Mackerel Set (₩19,000). We also added two orders of gondre rice (₩2,000 each), one with each set, planning to share everything.

A taste you can never get at home
Honestly, the biggest problem with grilling fish at home is the smell. Once you grill it, your curtains, clothes, even your hair end up smelling like fish.
Here, there's no need to worry about that since professionals grill it in a 500°C wood-fired oven — that was the best part, being able to enjoy delicious fish without any hassle. Once again, I realized fish always tastes best when someone else grills it for you.

How does the 500°C wood-fired grilled fish taste?
Grilled at 500°C, the outside turned golden and crisp while the inside stayed remarkably moist. When I lifted the flesh with my chopsticks, the texture held its grain beautifully, with almost no fishy smell and a clean, nutty flavor spreading through my mouth.
Personally, I fell for the mackerel. The flesh was really thick. It had just the right amount of fat, melting in my mouth without feeling greasy — clean and light.
They said it's brined low-temperature with sun-dried salt before aging, and the seasoning was spot on. I barely needed to dip it in soy sauce because the fish's natural flavor really came through, and I kept reaching for more. Even people who don't usually like fish could probably enjoy this.

There's even a banchan self-bar!
Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Gwangalli Waterside Park Branch has a separate banchan (side dish) self-bar, so you can grab as much as you want of whatever side dishes you like. Every dish came out looking clean and neat.
Places like this are oddly satisfying, right? No shame in refilling your banchan! (We kept refilling tteokbokki and lotus root.)

We finished off with the sungnyung (scorched rice tea) they served at the end, and left feeling full and content, body and soul.
