Ocean-view Western restaurant in Songdo, Pohang: 4-dish meal at Plan A

In short

Plan A Restaurant is an ocean-view Western restaurant on the 4th floor of a building right in front of Songdo Beach in Pohang, Gyeongbuk. The writer ate four dishes at Plan A Restaurant (the Plan A chop steak, carbonara, beef tomato spaghetti and beef pilaf) while looking out at the sea through floor-to-ceiling windows, and found parking easy thanks to free public lots in front of and behind the building. With sea views, food made with house-made sauces, high chairs and a dog-friendly policy, Plan A Restaurant is an easy choice for a meal at Songdo Beach.

Looking for a restaurant with a nice atmosphere near Songdo Beach? This time I wanted a relaxed meal with a view of the sea, so I went to Plan A Restaurant (플랜에이레스토랑). It's right in front of Songdo Beach and known as a place where you can eat with an ocean view, and when I actually visited, I was happy with both the food and the atmosphere. If you're looking for a good restaurant at Songdo Beach, I'd recommend stopping by at least once. :)

Where is Plan A Restaurant, and where do you park?

Plan A Restaurant is on the 4th floor of a building in front of Songdo Beach in Pohang, and for parking you can use the free public lots in front of and behind the building. The sign is easy to spot from the outside, so it wasn't hard to find, and you can ride the elevator up comfortably. Parking was really easy too.

  • Free public parking lots in front of and behind the building
  • The lot at the administrative welfare center at the back can also be used

Being able to visit without any parking stress is another reason I recommend it as a Songdo Beach restaurant. :)

Songdo Beach ocean view through floor-to-ceiling windows

When you walk into Plan A Restaurant, the whole of Songdo Beach spreads out through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The first thing I noticed as soon as I opened the door was the refreshing view of the sea, and I felt healed throughout the meal. Sitting at a window seat, you can look out at the water and eat at a leisurely pace, which was really nice.

White-toned interior with warm lighting gave it a comfortable yet stylish feel, and the place was kept neat and clean. As you'd expect from a Pohang restaurant that has been loved for a long time, the relaxed atmosphere left an impression, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a restaurant with a good mood. :)

Is Plan A Restaurant family- and dog-friendly?

I heard that the owner-chef, who has 20 years of experience, cooks everything personally and makes all the sauces from scratch. Maybe because it's food made with care from good ingredients, the overall quality of the dishes was high.

Inside Plan A Restaurant

High chairs are available, so it's good for a family meal, and dogs are allowed, so you can also visit with your pet.

So it suits a Pohang date, a family gathering, an anniversary meal, or taking your parents out.

The four dishes we ordered at Plan A Restaurant

These are the four dishes I ordered at Plan A Restaurant this time.

  • Plan A chop steak
  • Carbonara
  • Beef tomato spaghetti
  • Beef pilaf
Table spread of chop steak, pasta and pilaf, four dishes

With the whole table filled up, it looked really appetizing from the very start.

Beef tomato spaghetti

The beef tomato spaghetti had a house-made tomato sauce that wasn't sharply acidic and had a deep, rich flavor. It was the first dish I tried.

There was plenty of minced beef, so the texture was good, and a generous layer of cheese added a nutty richness. The noodles were cooked just right and soaked up the sauce well. No wonder people call it a great ocean-view pasta place in Pohang. :)

Carbonara with a thick, creamy sauce

The carbonara at Plan A Restaurant had a thick cream sauce clinging richly to the noodles, with plenty of bacon for extra flavor. The carbonara was really satisfying too.

The cheese aroma was strong, but rather than heavy, it was nutty and smooth, and the flavor lingered. Personally, it was one of my favorites.

Beef pilaf loaded with meat

The beef pilaf was fluffy stir-fried rice packed with beef and mushrooms. Topped with cheese, it was even nuttier, and the seasoning was just right, so I kept going back for more.

Every spoonful came with meat, so it was fun to chew, and it went really well alongside the pasta.

The generous Plan A chop steak

The Plan A chop steak was satisfying right from the portion size.

Bite-size pieces of beef were stir-fried with mushrooms, onions and assorted vegetables, and the meat was really tender.

A faint smoky grill flavor added to the taste, and it came with french fries too, so it was filling. The sauce wasn't harsh either, and I enjoyed it to the last bite.

A sea-view meal and a Songdo walking route

At Plan A Restaurant, I kept looking out the window at Songdo Beach while eating. With delicious food plus an ocean view, it felt like being on a trip, which made it even more satisfying.

After the meal, you can stroll along Songdo Beach or stop by a nearby café, which makes it a nice full-day outing. So I'd recommend it to anyone planning a Pohang date too. :)

I heard Plan A Restaurant has held its spot in front of Songdo Beach since 2015.

I think the reasons so many regulars have kept coming for so long are the house-made sauces, the carefully made food, and the friendly service. Add free parking and dog-friendly seating, and I was even more satisfied.

Verdict: is Plan A a good ocean-view restaurant at Songdo Beach?
