Hapjeong Thai date, four dishes and huge portions: Saeng Augustine
In short
Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch is a Thai restaurant on basement level 1 of Mecenatpolis at Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. On a Hapjeong date, the writer ordered four à la carte dishes: king prawn pad thai (19,000 won), somtam (green papaya salad, 19,000 won), Vietnamese pho (13,000 won) and tod mun kung (fried minced shrimp cakes, 14,000 won). The portions were so large the writer nearly burst. Prices at Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch feel a little high, but the portions make them reasonable, and the king prawn pad thai is a must-order.

It's been a while, but I went on a Hapjeong date! We ate somewhere good in Mecenatpolis, watched a movie and did some shopping, and of course the most important part is delicious food!

Is Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch good for group dinners and gatherings?
The inside of Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch is huge. It has lots of wide tables and even private rooms, so it's great for a date, but I'd especially recommend it to anyone looking for a company dinner or group gathering spot near Hapjeong Station. The staff are super friendly too. Thumbs up 👍
Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch menu: prices and portion sizes
This day I ordered king prawn pad thai (₩19,000), somtam (₩19,000), Vietnamese pho (₩13,000) and tod mun kung (₩14,000). You might think the prices are higher than at other Thai restaurants, but once you see the portions, it's reasonable... It had been a while, so I forgot how generous they are and ordered like crazy 😇 I thought I was going to burst after finishing it all.

The side dish is pickles. I love pickles, pickled radish, all that stuff.

The table setting was neat. They have Saeng Augustine meal kits too, I didn't know that until now.

What does tod mun kung taste like? A minced shrimp croquette
First out was the tod mun kung (Thai fried shrimp cakes, ₩14,000). It's kind of like a minced shrimp croquette?

When I split one in half, the minced shrimp was plump. At first I thought it might be overcooked, but it was crispy outside and moist inside, the real deal! It smelled of shrimp and felt like eating a really good shrimp croquette.

Dipping it in the sauce that comes with it made it about 2.7 times better lol. The sauce seemed to be chili plus fish sauce.

When I ordered the noodles, hoisin sauce and chili sauce came out. From here the dishes just kept coming. Food comes out fast, so I bet table turnover at lunchtime is good.

The Vietnamese pho is loaded with beef, onions and bean sprouts.

Somtam, known as Thailand's kimchi, comes topped with cilantro.

And my favorite thing on the Saeng Augustine menu, the king prawn pad thai!! You absolutely have to order this.

I'd already eaten the tod mun kung one by one, hehe. Okay, let's enjoy this Thai feast.

Saeng Augustine somtam: what's in it and how does it taste?
Veggies first, of course lol. Saeng Augustine's somtam is a shredded papaya salad. It has shredded papaya, shrimp, cherry tomatoes, long beans, peanuts, dried shrimp, lemon and more. I think it's built on sourness, with the spicy kick of Thai chili. It's great for refreshing your palate between bites.
Is the Vietnamese pho good for pho beginners?
Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch is a Thai restaurant, but the noodles are Vietnamese..... hehe. I love how many bean sprouts and onions there are. I'm a hoisin person rather than chili, hehe.

Wow, last night's drinks are totally gone. The noodles are soft and the broth is refreshing. It doesn't have a strong signature smell, so even pho beginners can eat it easily.
How to enjoy the king prawn pad thai
And now my beloved king prawn pad thai. Squeeze lemon over it as the staff told me, then add chili, peanuts and so on to taste.

First, one bite with just the bean sprouts. Pad thai really is sweet and salty in its purest form, so good.

The king prawn is literally a king prawn! Seeing a huge shrimp just makes me happy 🥰

Besides the king prawn, there are plenty of other big shrimp. I ate all the shrimp I could want that day 🤣

Sprinkling a little chili as recommended made it about 3.9 times better. Sweet and salty plus a bit of heat!

Lift those noodles up by the... heads~ You can tell I play favorites with pad thai from the number of photos lol. The other dishes were all good, but the king prawn pad thai is definitely my type.
Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch in one line
I finally visited Hapjeong Thai favorite Saeng Augustine Hapjeong Branch again, and the food was so good I almost burst. How about Thai food tonight instead of Korean, Chinese or Japanese?
