Eungam Station izakaya: solo drinks, salmon sashimi at Moonfall

Moonfall (문폴) is an izakaya (Japanese-style pub) in an alley near Eungam Station in Eunpyeong, Seoul. The writer drank solo at Moonfall, trying three kinds of croquettes, yukhoe (Korean beef tartare), salmon sashimi and a plum highball, and liked the soft lighting, the friendly staff and the salmon sashimi with no fishy taste. Moonfall is worth recommending for a quiet solo drink or a date near Eungam Station.

Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Yeouido (화덕으로간고등어반상 여의도점) is a Korean set-meal restaurant specializing in wood-fired grilled fish near Saetgang Station and Yeouido Station in Seoul. After losing their appetite in the summer heat, the writer ordered the wood-fired hairtail set (20,000 won) and the roe soup set (13,500 won), and was delighted by the self-serve side dish bar with refills, the sungnyung (scorched rice tea) and a refreshing roe soup packed with fish roe, cod milt and crown daisy greens. For a hearty, mild meal on a draining summer day, Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Yeouido is a great fit.
