Bucheon fries shop first visit: staff-picked combo at Angry Potato

Angry Potato is a trending, social-media-famous spot. I'd wanted to try it since it opened at Hyundai Department Store Jungdong, but the line was always long, so I kept an eye on it and finally went on a quiet weekday afternoon~ It's still so popular that there's always a wait on weekends! This place is known for punchy fries and Chili's cheese sticks that lots of people come back for. I'm posting about Angry Potato Hyundai Department Store Jungdong Branch as a Bucheon City Hall-area recommendation~~!!

Angry Potato Hyundai Department Store Jungdong Branch: location and hours

Angry Potato Hyundai Department Store Jungdong Branch is in the B1 food hall of Hyundai Department Store Jungdong, 180 Gilju-ro, Wonmi-gu, Bucheon, Gyeonggi. It's in the direction the escalator goes up from the food hall.

Angry Potato looks flashy from the outside. It's in a department store food hall so the shop is small, but it's so colorful that photo spots are dotted all over, which I loved.

How many sauces does Angry Potato have, and do they cost extra?

A big plus is that you can use 9 sauces without limit at the pickup zone~ The counter is at the front of the shop and the pickup zone is in the opposite direction. You don't have to add a topping to enjoy the 9 sauces to your taste, so keep that in mind.

• Sauces: ketchup, chipotle, sweet chili, diablo, honey mustard, sriracha mayo, Chicago charcoal, white cream, wasabi mayo
• The pickup counter has wet wipes, disposable spoons and forks, tissues and sanitary gloves.

How do you order at Angry Potato for the first time?

Here's the Angry Potato menu~ It was my first visit so I didn't know much, and I'd recommend looking things up before you go and ordering.

To order, first choose the type of potato, then (optionally) add a topping. If you're not sure, just pick one of the staff-pick combos ("meokpick").

• Staff-pick combos come with fries by default, but you can switch to Chewy Potato or potato chips.

Here's what I ordered~~ It was my first time at Angry Potato, so I took the staff's recommendation and ordered staff-pick combos. I got the 1st-ranked Angry Meat and the 2nd-ranked Chipotle Pulled Pork, plus the famous Chili's cheese sticks and a milkshake. I ordered both with plain fries, but you can switch to Chewy Potato or potato chips, so if you order two, I'd recommend changing one.

The Angry Potato Chipotle Pulled Pork is ranked 2nd in popularity, but for my husband and me it's number 1!!!!!!!! It's piled with so much tender meat that it could be a meal, filling and delicious.

Freshly fried, crispy fries with chipotle sauce poured generously on top~~!! The jalapeño and pulled pork toppings were plentiful and delicious. There were still toppings left until the very last bite, so I was really satisfied with the portion. There's plenty of sauce already, but if you want more, you can add some from the sauces on the pickup counter, so keep that in mind.

What does Angry Meat taste like? The number one menu item

Angry Meat — Angry Meat and nacho cheese

Angry Meat is a gochujang (Korean chili paste) meat sauce, tomato-based with a little gochujang, it seemed, so it tasted like fusion. It's the unshakable number one~ I'd never heard the word and wondered what it would taste like, and it was a sauce that felt familiar yet new. Its meat sauce is also loaded with meat, so it was filling, and it went well with the nacho cheese. It seems to be the most popular because everyone can enjoy it, with no love-it-or-hate-it divide.

Hot Crunch Chicken (2 pieces): better than expected

Angry Potato's Hot Crunch Chicken is salty American-style boneless chicken made with tender drumstick meat. Honestly, I ordered it without expecting much? It's seriously amazing. It wasn't dry, which I liked. I slightly regretted not ordering 5 pieces haha. It's well seasoned on its own, but it's also good dipped in sauce, so definitely try it~!!!!

The Chili's cheese sticks are another unshakable bestseller at Angry Potato!!! You can choose between original or Nashville Hot, and I picked the seasoned one. Cheese sticks were all the rage on social media for a while, and they looked as tasty as their fame suggests. The Chili's cheese sticks are sold in limited quantities.

Angry Potato's Chili's cheese sticks are fried with 100% mozzarella!! Hold one in both hands and pull, and the cheese stretches smoothly, so it was fun to eat and fun to watch. The taste is a nicely fried cheese stick!! haha Exactly the flavor you'd expect, but with so much cheese inside, it's worth buying at least once.

Everything was quite strongly seasoned, so I naturally thought of beer, and it was a shame there was no beer on the side menu haha. Still, there was a cold milkshake to go with it, and it was really good. Angry Potato's milkshake is ice-cream style, thick, with a rich milk flavor. It's so dense that I ate it with a spoon, and that actually went well with the fries. That was my tasty visit to Angry Potato's Jungdong branch, a Bucheon Hyundai Department Store favorite.
