Gangnam bakery café with raspberry French pie: Bakerist Brown

In short

Bakerist Brown is a large bakery café on Gangnam-daero 102-gil, between Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station in Seoul, spread over four floors from basement 1 to the third floor. The order was pepperoni kouign-amann, a black sesame latte, raspberry French pie and cookies, eaten over a long stay in the quiet, roomy basement seating. The pepperoni kouign-amann, crisp outside and soft inside with a salty edge, was the most memorable item of the visit.

A real bakery worth the trip!!

Bread display at Bakerist Brown

I visited Bakerist Brown while looking for a good bakery in Gangnam. I was hoping to find somewhere near Gangnam Station and Sinnonhyeon Station where I could enjoy bread and coffee together, and once I actually went, it was far more satisfying than I expected.

The menu item that stuck with me the most was the pepperoni kouign-amann.

I love bread and have been to plenty of places, but this was genuinely one of the best things I've eaten in a while.

Where Bakerist Brown is and what each floor feels like

Bakerist Brown is located at Nonhyeon Tower, 21 Gangnam-daero 102-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. It's a sizeable bakery café spanning from basement 1 up to the 3rd floor, so the space felt bigger than I expected.

The 1st floor is great for browsing bread and desserts, and the 2nd floor is a clean space with natural light that's also nice for photos. What I liked most, though, was the basement space. It was quieter and roomier than I expected, making it a great spot to sit for a while with coffee.

I didn't end up using the outdoor space, but it's really pretty.

How does the pepperoni kouign-amann taste?

What I ordered was Bakerist Brown's pepperoni kouign-amann.

Pepperoni kouign-amann on a plate

This Pepperoni Kouign-Amann was truly beyond my expectations. Crisp outside and soft and moist inside, with the rich buttery flavor kouign-amann is known for coming through strongly. Add the salty tang of pepperoni on top, and it wasn't just a sweet pastry — it was addictive in a way that made me want to keep eating.

Personally, it's one of the more memorable breads I've had recently, and if I come back, this is definitely something I'd order again. That texture alone is why I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a great pastry spot near Gangnam Station.

Black sesame latte with the bread: does it work?

I assumed the bread would be the highlight, but the drinks were satisfying too. The black sesame latte in particular was really good — better than I expected.

A cup of nutty black sesame latte

The nutty flavor of black sesame came through strongly, and it wasn't overly sweet, which I liked. Paired with a flavorful bread like the pepperoni kouign-amann, the combination worked really well. It's a drink that even people who find sweet desserts too much could enjoy.

Raspberry French pie and cookies at Bakerist Brown

Raspberry French pie dessert

I also enjoyed the raspberry French pie I ordered alongside. It has a thinner, crispier texture than typical bread, so it was easy to enjoy lightly, and the tartness of the raspberry paired well with coffee. It's a good option when you want something simple for dessert.

The cookies I got on top of that were really delicious too.

They also had the wakppu bread that's trending lately.

Bakerist Brown isn't just a café with a nice atmosphere — the bread itself was genuinely satisfying. Since it's a bakery that makes everything in-house with good ingredients, the flavor really came through, and each item felt carefully thought out. The pepperoni kouign-amann especially is something I'd tell anyone to try at least once.
