Hampyeong Yukhoe Bangi Main Branch is a yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) and mungtigi (thick-cut raw beef) restaurant in the Bangi-dong food alley in Songpa, Seoul. The writer and her husband ordered Hampyeong Set 1 in medium (75,000 won) and enjoyed it with a complimentary seonji (ox-blood) soup, fresh gamtae seaweed from the reservation event and extra sushi rice (5,000 won), pairing the beef with chili and garlic, aged kimchi, pickled chili and gamtae. Hampyeong Yukhoe Bangi Main Branch is a strong Bangi-dong pick for a year-end gathering or a date when you want fresh raw beef in many combinations.

Songpa custom cake shop: mint ribbon birthday Cupnuke, Lala's Cake

Lala's Cake is a custom and lettering cake shop on Wiryegwangjang-ro in Songpa, Seoul, which also runs the flower shop Lala's Flower. For a family birthday, the writer ordered a 3-tier vanilla Cupnuke (a tiered cupcake cake), left the design to the owner with only "pretty and bright," and received a mint cake with a ribbon and birthday candles; the family loved it, saying they had never seen a Cupnuke before. Lala's Cake charges ₩30,000 for a 2-tier Cupnuke and ₩40,000 for a 3-tier one, and is a reliable choice in Songpa when you can't settle on a design yourself.

Songpa florist: no-vase mini flower basket for an anniversary, Habio

Habio Flower by Su is a florist in the Parc Habio shopping complex in Munjeong-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, offering bouquets, flower baskets, preserved flowers, allowance boxes and balloon flowers. The writer bought an affordable mini flower basket as an anniversary gift and liked that it could be displayed right away without a vase, and the recipient was very pleased with it. Habio Flower by Su is worth a look if you want a compact anniversary flower gift near Munjeong Station or Jangji Station.

Seongnam bossam restaurant: 7pm-boiled gabrisal with shrimp and chili

Bossam Ae Kalguksu Seongnam Sangdaewon Branch is a Korean bossam (boiled pork) restaurant in Sangdaewon-dong, Jungwon-gu, Seongnam, serving gabrisal pork bossam together with kalguksu (hand-cut noodle soup). The writer arrived on a weekday for the 7pm meat-boiling time and ordered the small gabrisal bossam (₩37,000), which came with free kalguksu for two, rice from the self-serve bar and wrap combinations such as salted shrimp with chili and radish kimchi. With bossam sets starting at ₩10,000 and kalguksu for two included even with à la carte bossam, Bossam Ae Kalguksu is a satisfying, good-value meal.

Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Moran Branch is a comfortable Moran pork belly spot for couples or company dinners who would rather not do the grilling themselves.

Pork rib BBQ at Wirye Central Plaza: doenjang stew at Yeryedam Galbi

Yeryedam Galbi (위례예담갈비) is a charcoal-grilled pork and beef rib restaurant on the first floor of the Wirye Central Plaza shopping arcade on Wiryegwangjang-ro in Songpa, Seoul. A couple shared 2 servings of seasoned pork galbi (280g for 21,000 won), then rice with homestyle doenjang stew and 1,000-won dessert mul naengmyeon and bibim naengmyeon. Six side dishes, including seasoned raw crab and stir-fried wood ear mushrooms, and the owner tending the grill stood out. For a family meal in Wirye that covers meat, a proper meal and dessert noodles in one stop, Yeryedam Galbi is a solid choice.

Garak Mall fish shop, shad set & butter shrimp heads: Yeongjae Susan

Yeongjae Susan (영재수산) is a sashimi and seafood shop on the 1st floor of Garak Mall's Panmae-dong building in Songpa, Seoul. On a weekday drive home from work, a married couple picked up a small jeon-gwang-cham set of shad, large flatfish and large sea bream sashimi plus 500g of live shrimp from Yeongjae Susan. At home they ate shrimp sashimi, salt-grilled shrimp, butter-grilled shrimp heads and a complimentary spicy fish stew. For anyone taking home seasonal sashimi and live shrimp from Garak Market in shad season, Yeongjae Susan was a satisfying choice.
