In short

HEOD Gongdeok (해옫 마포) is an all-day brunch restaurant beside the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, near Exit 4 of Daeheung Station in Mapo, Seoul. The writer ordered the chicken mashed potato (19,800 won) with extra grain bread (1,500 won) and loved how the sweet-salty, honey-and-soy chicken thigh tasted dipped in the buttery potato sauce. If you order the chicken mashed potato at HEOD Gongdeok, adding the grain bread is well worth it.

What is HEOD Gongdeok like?

HEOD Gongdeok (해옫) is a Western-style restaurant near Daeheung Station where you can enjoy brunch all day. The name is short for "the sun rises." Like a warm sun rising through the clouds, they say they want everyone who visits to feel that warmth and have a comfortable, happy time.

Location and exterior of HEOD Gongdeok

From Daeheung Station Exit 4, walk along the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail and you'll find it on one side. The location is already perfect! The olive-green sign matches the forest trail and gives off a cozy, warm feeling!

The weather was nice, so they had all the doors wide open! You can enjoy brunch while fully taking in the forest trail.

I heard HEOD became famous for its French toast in Jumunjin, Gangneung! There's French toast that's perfect for brunch, plus a wide lineup of drinks!

The menu is very varied: pasta, risotto, steak, gnocchi and more. They're fusion dishes built on Korean and Western food, so you end up curious about how each one tastes.

Seating and reservations at HEOD Gongdeok

The restaurant is fairly spacious! There's group seating, plus bar seats, 2-person tables and 4-person tables. It works for solo meals, dates and get-togethers with friends! I also thought it would be great for a wedding invitation meetup.

Interior of HEOD Gongdeok

The place is already popular by word of mouth for its pretty interior and great food, so even on a weekday lunch you may have a short wait if you arrive a bit late! Naver reservations are available, so I recommend booking. They also have birthday and anniversary events, so it seems good for an anniversary date too!

Chicken mashed potato with chicken and asparagus on potato sauce

Look at this gorgeous chicken mashed potato 😭😭😭 On top of a rich homemade potato sauce made with butter, there are asparagus, tender chicken and chives.

Before ordering I couldn't really picture the taste, but it was so good!!!!! The chicken tasted of honey and of soy sauce chicken at once, so you get the sweet-and-salty harmony in a single bite! If I had to compare, it's like a softer-textured Kyochon Honey Combo!!! Every bite had layered flavors and it was so delicious!!!!

Dunking the chicken deep into the potato sauce is the ultimate combo 😭😭😭😭😭 The soft, nutty butter potato sauce wrapping the sweet-salty chicken thigh was perfect!!!

Asparagus spread under the chicken steak

Under the chicken steak there's a generous bed of asparagus! It adds a crunchy texture and goes well with everything.

Extra grain bread served with the chicken mashed potato

Is the extra bread with the chicken mashed potato worth it?

When you order the chicken mashed potato at HEOD Gongdeok, the extra bread (₩1,500) is a total recommend!! It's a nutty, crispy grain bread, and dunked deep into the mashed potato it's so good too 😭😭😭😭 It was even better than I expected, so I was really satisfied with this chicken mashed potato!!!

Thoughtful touches at HEOD Gongdeok

At the payment counter there were several kinds of perfume! With a note saying to feel free to use them. Not just some Febreze but actual perfume, what a thoughtful touch... The staff were all kind too, and it was a nice place for brunch in a cozy, fresh atmosphere.

If you're looking for an all-day brunch spot near Daeheung Station, or a good pasta restaurant there for a date, I recommend HEOD Gongdeok!!
