Hoegi Station galbitang with side dish refills: Hoegi Wang

Today I'm introducing Hoegi Wang Galbitang (회기왕갈비탕), a great spot for a hearty meal near Hoegi Station. I ended up here while searching for good eats around Hoegi Station and Kyung Hee University. As the name suggests, you get galbitang (beef short rib soup) with big, chunky ribs, and it was perfect for a day when I wanted a proper, filling meal.

The broth was rich, the ribs were tender and plentiful, and the atmosphere was easygoing enough for anything from eating solo to a family meal out. Today I'll go through the menu, the taste and the feel of the place in detail 🍲✨

How long does it take to walk from Hoegi Station to Hoegi Wang Galbitang?

Hoegi Wang Galbitang is about 300m on foot from Hoegi Station Exit 1, so it was easy to reach by public transport. If you're looking for a good meal around Hoegi Station, it's close to the station and easy to get to.

There's also a parking area in front of the restaurant. But with only about 2 spaces, it may be full on weekends or at mealtimes. If you're driving, check the spaces in front first, and if they're full I'd recommend a nearby public parking lot. Being near Hoegi Station and Kyung Hee University, it's also a convenient spot if you're looking for a galbitang place around Kyung Hee 🚗✨

Inside Hoegi Wang Galbitang and the self zone

The inside was clean and fairly spacious, with both group tables and solo seats, so it suits all kinds of visits. It works for family meals and get-togethers, and the layout makes eating alone feel comfortable too, so students and office workers around Hoegi can use it easily.

The self zone was well stocked, which impressed me. Besides seokbakji (radish kimchi), kimchi and deodeok (bellflower root) salad, rice is also free to refill, so you can eat your fill. There are even barley gangjeong (puffed grain snacks) and misugaru (roasted grain drink) for after the meal, which felt really thoughtful. What I ordered at Hoegi Wang Galbitang and the price

We ordered the Gireok Hoebok Special Galbitang (₩18,000), one of Hoegi Wang Galbitang's signature dishes. The name alone sounds hearty (it means "restorative"), haha. True to a galbitang specialist, it came with plenty of big ribs and a rich broth, and I thought it was more than good enough as a full meal.

How did the Gireok Hoebok Special Galbitang taste?

Finally, our Gireok Hoebok Special Galbitang arrived 🍲 It looked generous from the first glance. The meat on the rib bones was really substantial, and it came off so tenderly that a light touch of the chopsticks was enough. The combination of rich broth and tender ribs was so satisfying that I could see why this place is known as a go-to galbitang spot in Hoegi.

Free rice refills and three side dishes refilled twice

Personally, the best thing about Hoegi Wang Galbitang was the free rice refills. After tearing into the ribs, I put rice in the leftover broth and it made a really full meal. The seokbakji, kimchi and deodeok salad that came with it went well with the food too. The sides were so good that we refilled all three twice 😊

Dessert from the self zone: barley gangjeong and misugaru
