Grilled shrimp burger at 1986 Shibuya Burger, a Hoegi burger spot
In short
1986 Shibuya Burger is a Japanese-style handmade burger restaurant near Hoegi Station and the front gate of Kyung Hee University in Dongdaemun, Seoul. The visit covered the red skillet cheese burger and the new grilled shrimp burger, both as sets, with hot griddled cheese, a whole-shrimp patty, welcome fries and sauces from the self-serve bar, and a refresh kit after the meal. 1986 Shibuya Burger works just as well for a solo lunch as for a table of friends.

Being so close to Kyung Hee University's front gate and Hoegi Station, this place is great to drop by for lunch or dinner whenever you're craving a handmade burger haha.
The shop is decorated in a cute Japanese style and packed with a wide variety of delicious handmade burgers, so I really want to recommend it as a must-visit burger spot!

Inside 1986 Shibuya Burger: atmosphere and seating
It goes beyond simple interior design — this place is full of Shibuya's retro feel and city pop mood! The seats are plentiful too, so it's perfect for dates or gatherings with friends haha. There are also cozy little spots, making it a great Kyung Hee University-area restaurant for eating solo too!

What's at the self-serve bar?
The self-serve bar has all kinds of things ready — jalapeños, pickles, welcome fries, and various sauces. How can you not fall for a self-serve bar like this haha. And since it's a restaurant near Kyung Hee University, they even give out fries for free to help save college students' wallets — this kind of Hoegi restaurant, you just can't pass it by!

The refresh kit served after the meal
The refresh kit and the desserts they have ready afterward come in all kinds of variety too, but the little gift the owner prepares is a thoughtful touch that stays with you, making you want to come back to this handmade burger place! So after my meal, I grabbed the refresh kit too and got the mouthwash and floss! It also had vitamins and candy inside, letting me finish the meal on an even cleaner note.

Whether it's a solo lunch on a day I have class or meeting up with friends, this feels like an easy, thoughtful restaurant near Hoegi Station that I naturally end up visiting for great handmade burgers.

Shibuya Burger's burgers are really delicious, but I think what draws me in even more is that it's a warm space where you can relieve stress! The unique atmosphere combined with a warm Japanese vibe keeps making me want to visit again and again.

Which burger should first-timers order?
There's really a wide variety of handmade burger menus, and while everything is delicious, if it's your first visit, one of the best-seller menus should be perfect! There are single items and sets, so you can order according to how hungry you are that day :)

The welcome fries are fried plain and crispy, so having various sauces is a must — stock up at the self-serve bar haha. And I highly recommend the garlic sauce~ Eating the garlic sauce together with the fries is really delicious.

Red skillet cheese burger: the signature griddled cheese
I ordered the red skillet cheese burger and the grilled shrimp burger — it's not just a burger with cheese added, but a unique and delicious menu where you enjoy the burger with cheese melted right on a hot skillet, a signature item that nails both taste and visuals.

The red skillet cheese burger comes with a spicy sauce that pairs really well with the hot, savory cheese.

The balance of the patty, sauce, and toppings is so good that this is a handmade burger you keep thinking about after eating — on days when I'm craving a good handmade burger, I find myself heading to 1986 Shibuya Burger.

The delicious cheese that doesn't harden easily on the hot skillet pairs so well with the burger that it's even fun to enjoy it right at the table yourself — a menu I completely recommend.

The pickled onions on top go well with it too, and combined with the savory flavor of the meat patty and the rich, generous cheese, it's a combination that keeps making you want more.

How does the new grilled shrimp burger taste?
The grilled shrimp burger was a new menu item! It was a really delicious shrimp burger with a plump, whole shrimp inside.

With Shibuya's own take added, this shrimp burger let me taste a bounciness and richness of shrimp you can't get elsewhere — an easy-to-enjoy yet very delicious burger.

Swapping the side for cheese sticks
The wedge fries and cheese sticks that come with the set are savory and delicious when eaten hot, so I really recommend ordering the burger as a set haha. And the cheese sticks — I didn't pay any extra for them, I just swapped out the fries for cheese sticks! Please note that side menus can be freely swapped. Some menus may incur an extra charge, but there are also sides you can swap with no extra cost.

If you want to enjoy a special meal in Hoegi, or if it's a day you're craving a delicious handmade burger, how about 1986 Shibuya Burger?
