Songpa sashimi takeout with a 20-minute Saturday wait: Yeongjae Susan

Yeongjae Susan is a sashimi takeout shop on the first floor of the Gakmol sales building at Garak Market in Songpa, Seoul. On a busy Saturday afternoon, a small mixed platter of sea bass, flounder and red sea bream took about 20 minutes to prepare and came in an insulated shopping bag with plenty of ice packs plus soy sauce, chogochujang, wasabi and ssamjang. The thick-cut live-fish sashimi from Yeongjae Susan suited traditional Korean liquor and was just the right amount for two.

Solo-friendly hand-drip coffee shop in Wangsimni: Nerdy Blue Burrow

Nerdy Blue Burrow is a quiet coffee and dessert café in a small alley beside Sohol Art Hall, near Wangsimni Station in Seongdong, Seoul. Visiting alone, I ordered the coffee of the month — a Peru organic hand-drip — along with banana pudding and a classic financier, and stayed a long while under soft lighting and low music. For an uncrowded solo coffee spot near Wangsimni or Hanyang University, Nerdy Blue Burrow is the answer.
