Gojan-dong, Ansan bingsu café: ₩12,000 injeolmi bingsu, salt bread

It was a brutally hot day in August when I visited Flowerpot Cafe. It's tucked behind the wedding hall where I got married, so I'd passed by it countless times, and with so many rave reviews about its bakery, I decided to stop putting it off. The bakery is indeed great, but it turns out Flowerpot is also a bingsu (shaved ice dessert) spot — here's my review.

Where is Flowerpot Cafe in Gojan-dong, and where do you park?

Flowerpot Cafe is located behind the AW Convention wedding hall in Gojan-dong, Ansan. There's no dedicated parking, so I parked at the public lot in front of AW Convention and walked over. The building stands out even from a distance, so it wasn't hard to find.

Since it's right behind a wedding hall, I'd expect it to get busier on weekends. I deliberately went on a weekday afternoon instead. It's just across the street, and since the public lot is cheap and spacious, I'd recommend parking there.

Inside Flowerpot Cafe: seating and interior

Being a large café, the interior was quite spacious. I imagine it gets packed with groups on wedding weekends, but I intentionally avoided the weekend and came during a quiet weekday slot to enjoy the bread and bingsu in peace.

There are window seats with comfortable high-back chairs, so you could sit for a long time without discomfort. I'd already heard so many reviews praising the bakery here, so I arrived with high expectations.

There are kids' chairs too, so it's a good café to visit with children.

What's on the menu at Flowerpot Cafe?

I wanted a cold Americano, so I ordered one, and I also got an injeolmi (rice-cake) patbingsu for my parents, who love bingsu. Flowerpot's signature latte is the orange cream latte — I'll have to come back and try that soon.

There's a big menu board on the wall, so even older visitors can easily see and order — a real plus for this Gojan-dong bakery café.

Summer always brings to mind bingsu and watermelon juice. There are plenty of fresh fruit juice options to enjoy with kids too. There are bingsu options parents would love and a wide variety of bakery items — I think I'll be coming here much more often from now on.

Flowerpot Cafe also had a diverse bakery lineup. Even after a heavy lunch, dessert stomach is a separate thing, so I found myself drawn to the display case to pick out a pastry haha.

There were so many delicious-looking breads that I lingered a good while trying to choose.

I usually love anbutter (butter and red bean) bread, so when I saw the last anbutter salt bread, I grabbed it right away.

Beyond that there were plenty of other tempting breads, so I checked them out one by one. I'll probably have to come back for the kabocha (sweet pumpkin) campagne next time... haha.

With scones, egg tarts, cookies, and all sorts of bakery items, I think I'll be stopping by Flowerpot for some healing time whenever I'm craving bread.

More than anything, the location is so convenient — whenever there's a wedding at AW wedding hall, there's never really a good café nearby. Since I have weddings to attend there this winter and next year too, I think I'll be able to stop by Flowerpot every time.

Inside the display case there are also delicious-looking slice cakes to choose from according to taste, plus milk for kids.

One nice thing about a large café is that the restroom is indoors. External restrooms can be inconvenient, but Flowerpot's restroom is inside, which was a nice touch.

If you have leftover bread, you can freely pack it up to take home.

I debated between garlic rusk and meringue cookies, and ended up going with the meringue cookies I love. I usually can't resist meringue cookies whenever I spot them at a café, haha.

The Americano and injeolmi bingsu came out really fast after ordering. It came out much sooner than I expected, which was great. I picked an injeolmi bingsu that my parents love and an Americano for myself, and eating them alongside the meringue cookies and salt bread was a great combination.

How does the ₩12,000 injeolmi bingsu taste?

Flowerpot Cafe's injeolmi bingsu costs ₩12,000, made with shaved milk ice generously coated in roasted soybean powder. I thought the price was gentler than at other cafés.

With prices these days, ordering bingsu, bread, and coffee together at a café can easily run past ₩30,000, but at Flowerpot it didn't feel like a burden to eat this well.

Maybe because I love injeolmi among all the rice cakes, I really enjoyed the bingsu heavily coated in soybean powder.

My parents, who always used to order regular patbingsu, tried the injeolmi bingsu and were very satisfied, saying it was delicious.

Shaved milk ice with roasted soybean powder — how could that combination not be delicious? The rice cake on top was tasty too, and eating it together with the bingsu made it even better.

Anbutter salt bread and pretzel meringue cookies

The anbutter salt bread I picked at Flowerpot Cafe was a chewy salt bread combined with butter and red bean. I always love salt bread and eat it often, but butter and red bean together too? I didn't hesitate to pick it up.

The combination of chewy salt bread with butter and red bean exceeded my expectations. After tasting it, I could fully understand why this place is known as a bakery spot.

The pretzel meringue cookie tasted just as expected, which made me devour it even more happily. It paired well with the Americano, and every single bread I picked was delicious — I'm already thinking about coming back with my husband soon. Highly recommend Flowerpot, the bakery café spot in Gojan-dong, Ansan.
