Seoul eel restaurant for a late dinner: Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel
In short
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel (장수촌풍천장어) is a salt-grilled eel restaurant near Amsa Station Exit 1 in Gangdong, Seoul. The writer came for a late dinner with her overworked, exhausted husband and had 1kg of salt-grilled eel cooked over charcoal by the staff and jjageuri kimchi stew, along with a tasting bowl of eel chueotang (eel soup) and a free grilled king prawn for a receipt review. Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is a good Amsa dinner for a restorative meal of grilled eel and warm soup together.

An eel restaurant in Amsa for restoring a tired husband
For a late-evening health boost, we picked Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel (장수촌풍천장어), a salt-grilled eel restaurant in Amsa. My husband has been swamped with work lately and tired every single day. He looked wiped out when he got home, so I figured he needed something hearty.
This is exactly when you go for a restorative meal, right?! I was wondering what to have for dinner and suggested we go eat eel.

Salt-grilled eel that they grill for you, plus warm soup~ a perfect dinner combo! Here's my honest review of Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel, an Amsa favorite.
Location, parking and hours of Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel

Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is about 350m from Amsa Station Exit 1, and you can park conveniently right in front of the restaurant. It's on a big main road, so it wasn't hard to find. Worth knowing about the parking.

We went fairly late in the evening, but the owner welcomed us very kindly.
- Hours: daily 11:00 - 22:00
- Last order: 21:00
What are the restaurant and menu like?

The restaurant is spacious, so it looks comfortable for family gatherings and even large groups. The ingredients are fresh, and they say the salt on the eel is bokbunja (Korean black raspberry) salt. (You can really feel they use good ingredients!)

The main menu item is 1kg of salt-grilled eel, and the side menu is varied too. If you order the whole abalone, it comes butter-grilled, which looked like a great match with eel.

Side dishes and the self bar
The side dishes were neatly set out~ and honestly every one of them was delicious. The salad had a fresh, zesty sauce that really whets the appetite.

You can get more side dishes and vegetables at the self bar.
1kg of salt-grilled eel, so easy because they grill it for you

That day at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel we had 1kg of salt-grilled eel along with jjagleoi kimchi stew (thick, rich kimchi stew). The salt-grilled eel I'd been waiting for! They grilled it for us, which was so convenient.

It was grilled well over charcoal: soft inside, nicely golden outside, with a smoky charcoal flavor. It was delicious, and they grilled it just right without burning it.

Well-grilled eel with pickled ginger is such a great combo!!!

Pairing with angelica and other wrap vegetables
Several kinds of vegetables came out, including angelica leaves (danggwi). I ate the eel plain at times and with vegetables at others, so you can choose to suit your taste. When there's a variety of vegetables with eel, you keep changing the combination, one way this time and another way next, and we tried a bit of everything too.

At the end, rice cake skewers and grilled mushrooms too!! Chewy, and the texture was insane. I picked eel while wondering what to have for dinner in Amsa, and since they grill it for you and there are so many side dishes, we're definitely coming back!! haha
Receipt review event: free grilled king prawn

On top of that, if you write a Naver receipt review at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel, you get a grilled king prawn as a free service. Look at the size of that prawn. They give such a huge prawn for free!!! Do join the event!! I was full but kept eating, haha
I came for eel and ended up with king prawn too, so I really got my protein in. haha
What does the tasting bowl of eel chuatang taste like?
The tasting bowl of eel chuatang (loach-style soup) at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is made, they told us, by finely grinding eel heads and bones and simmering them for a long time with loach, dried radish greens and bracken. Hearing those ingredients, it felt like a bowl of herbal tonic. It was truly the right pick for a restorative meal.
Taking a spoonful of warm eel chuatang between bites of grilled eel made me feel full and nourished right down inside. Being able to have grilled food and soup together made it a great fit for dinner.

Jjagleoi kimchi stew too
We also had jjagleoi kimchi stew, which I usually love. It's packed with big chunks of pork. The broth wasn't too sweet or too salty, with a pleasant kick, just right with rice.
Summary: Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel for a restorative dinner in Amsa

Even though we visited late in the evening, we were welcomed kindly and could eat comfortably, and the eel was grilled to a golden brown, so we enjoyed it to the very end.

Parking in front of the shop was convenient, and the spacious restaurant makes for a pleasant meal. With tidy side dishes, lots of vegetables, melt-in-your-mouth eel and even grilled king prawn, it was a satisfying dinner.
Lately my husband and I are both busy, so sometimes we settle on dinner casually, but this day we really got a restorative meal and enjoyed our evening together. On a day when you can't decide what to eat in Amsa, Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel is the place for a hearty eel meal!!^^
