In short

Eolkeuni Gamjatang Samgyeopsal Bupyeong Station Branch is a Korean pub near Bupyeong Station in Incheon that serves gamjatang (pork bone stew), bone hangover soup and samgyeopsal (pork belly). The writer had a strikingly red, spicy bone hangover soup, cheese-topped steamed egg and a minari (water parsley) shrimp pancake with four large shrimp, all with soju; meat sets start at ₩49,000. Thanks to the seokbakji (chunky radish kimchi) you'll want endless refills of and the generous bone meat, Eolkeuni Bupyeong Station Branch is worth returning to for a hangover meal or a group dinner.

Today I visited Eolkeuni Gamjatang Samgyeopsal Bupyeong Station Branch.

What are the exterior and atmosphere of Eolkeuni Bupyeong Station Branch like?

Eolkeuni Gamjatang Samgyeopsal Bupyeong Station Branch is already a famous hot spot in Bupyeong, a pub for gamjatang (pork bone stew) and samgyeopsal (pork belly). The slogan on the sign, "rich gamjatang and generous meat at the same time," feels pretty tempting.

There's a big-faced mascot. Is that the founder?

Let's look inside. When you sit around with good people, you don't even need to explain anything and it just feels okay. Good people are what keep you going. Chamisul (soju) is nice.

I think it's a reasonable set menu. Meat, pancake and stew together make a combo that sends the soju down smoothly.

Stone-pot bone stew course: from ₩33,000 with steamed egg

This time it's the bone stew course. A small stone-pot bone stew with steamed egg is ₩33,000, a medium with steamed egg is ₩39,000, and a large stone-pot bone stew with steamed egg is ₩44,000. The large seems the best value.

Most solo hangover meals are ₩10,000

That's not all. For a solo hangover fix, the bone hangover soup, spicy soft tofu stew and brisket soybean paste stew are ₩10,000 each. There's also jeyuk deopbap (spicy pork rice bowl), the Korean soul food, and the nostalgic giant pork cutlet. The rice bowl is ₩10,000 and the cutlet is ₩12,000. There's young radish bibimbap too, also ₩10,000. Lots of menu items that bring ten-thousand-won happiness.

Pancakes, side dishes and extras

The minari shrimp pancake, seafood scallion pancake and kimchi pancake are ₩18,000, ₩18,000 and ₩15,000. Beef tartare is ₩15,000, the Spam egg grill is ₩15,000, and stir-fried squid is also ₩15,000.

Self-serve cheese fried rice is ₩5,000, and extra self-serve fried rice is ₩3,000. I guess you do the fried rice after finishing the gamjatang. Extra dried cabbage greens are ₩2,000, and adding ramen is easily possible too. These extras let you enjoy the gamjatang even more richly.

Other drinks include draft beer, Soseongju and cream makgeolli (milky rice wine). The cream makgeolli is seriously creamy. Prices were in the ₩6,000 range.

What side dishes come out? The seokbakji is really good

The best of the side dishes at Eolkeuni Gamjatang Samgyeopsal Bupyeong Station Branch was the seokbakji (radish kimchi mixed with cabbage). It was seriously delicious. I could have eaten it endlessly.

Side dishes including seokbakji and geotjeori-style kimchi

There are also chili peppers, onions and sliced garlic, plus ssamjang (dipping paste). The kimchi was a bit like fresh, geotjeori-style kimchi. A soy dipping sauce also comes out for the bone meat and pancakes.

On the table there were perilla powder, salt and pepper. That's the classic three-item basic setting, and a bottle opener is included too.

If you open the drawer, there are wet wipes, tissues, spoons and chopsticks.

How spicy is the bone hangover soup at Eolkeuni?

The broth of the bone hangover soup at Eolkeuni Gamjatang Samgyeopsal Bupyeong Station Branch is a bit redder than elsewhere, probably because it's spicy. When I took a sip, I could really feel the heat.

I really thought it would be great as a hangover cure.

Cheese-topped steamed egg and minari shrimp pancake with 4 shrimp

The steamed egg looks soft and fluffy with cheese on top. The fluffiness is cute. It's best eaten while hot, of course. Blowing on it now and then is like a proper featuring.

Here comes the minari shrimp pancake. There are four big shrimp. The minari is grilled crispy and fragrant, and it was really delicious. Dipped in the soy sauce, it was a side dish I kept reaching for.

With a spread like this, it's a proper hangover cure. Three bottles of soju, and it's the part where you go get totally hammered.

Is the bone meat portion generous?

The bone hangover soup at Eolkeuni Gamjatang Samgyeopsal Bupyeong Station Branch has quite a lot of meat. The lean meat is tender, so you pull it off the bone and dip it in the soy sauce, and that's the charm of gamjatang and bone hangover soup. There's fun in picking the meat off.

I'm already thinking of it again. I should go regularly. That was Eolkeuni Gamjatang Samgyeopsal Bupyeong Station Branch.
