Bar near Sookmyung Station in Seoul with Hwayo highballs: Heui Huam
In short
Heui Huam is a Korean gastropub in Huam-dong, Yongsan, Seoul, a short walk from Sookmyung Women's University Station Exit 2. At 6:30pm on a Saturday, Heui Huam was nearly full, and the table shared Egg in Hell and carbonara with beer and a Hwayo Bongbong highball. The Hwayo Bongbong tasted like sweet grape soda and the carbonara sauce never grew heavy, so book ahead if you are coming at peak hours.

I was out wandering around Huam-dong and wanted a nice-atmosphere dinner spot, haha. That's when I found Heui Huam, which also looked like a great Haebangchon date spot. They had unique menu items like pasta, Italian mussel soup, and Egg in Hell — here's my honest review~

Heui Huam from the street

Heui Huam, a bar near Sookmyung Women's University Station, is located a straight walk from Exit 2. You can stroll over slowly, or take a bus since there's a stop nearby. Parking is pretty much impossible given the location, ㅠㅠ but the place already had a great vibe when I arrived~

Pasta, Egg in Hell, and mussel soup are supposedly the famous items, but they also sell things like braised spicy chicken and gochujang/soy-braised chicken, haha.
Saturday at 6:30pm: how full is Heui Huam and do you need a reservation?

Walking inside, the dim lighting definitely made it feel like the perfect Haebangchon date spot. We went around 6:30pm on a Saturday and it was almost completely full?! If you're going during peak hours, it seems best to book a reservation ahead, haha.
What's on the Heui Huam menu: sides and wine list

Here's the menu board at Heui Huam, the bar near Sookmyung Women's University Station. Besides the mains, there was a wide range of sides — buffalo wings and fries, cream cheese & pecan candy crackers, garlic butter baguette & Philadelphia cheese, sweet potato fries, soy butter rice, chocolate chip and injeolmi (rice cake) vanilla ice cream. The wine list even noted sweetness, acidity, and body, which was helpful if you're not familiar with wine, ㅎㅅㅎ. We ordered Egg in Hell, carbonara, beer, and a Hwayo Bongbong highball!
How do the Hwayo Bongbong, Egg in Hell and carbonara taste?

Pretzels came out as the basic side dish! Haha, perfect for before the first drink~

The beer and Hwayo Bongbong highball came out quickly too?! I can't drink soju and I'm not much of a drinker in general, but I do like just drinking beer plain, and I like highballs that don't taste too boozy, haha. True to its name, the Hwayo Bongbong tasted similar to grape soda! If you like sweet highballs, I really recommend trying it, ㅠㅠㅠ it was delicious, haha.

And here's the food we ordered at Heui Huam, the bar near Sookmyung Women's University Station! The visuals were insane ㅠㅠㅠㅠ — hearty and mouthwatering. I usually think balance matters when ordering food, ㅇㅅㅇ, and the combo of tomato sauce and cream sauce here was solid.

This was my first time trying Egg in Hell, so I was full of anticipation!!!

The carbonara also looked appetizing, with a nicely thick-looking sauce and pretty plating, haha.
Since Egg in Hell is one of Heui's signature dishes, I filmed it up close, ㅋㅅㅋ.
The combo of egg, tomato sauce, and cheese looked amazing, and dipping baguette into it!! It was incredible, ㅠㅠ. A flavor I kept going back to...

I wondered why I hadn't tried this delicious dish sooner, lol.
I gave the carbonara noodles a good mix.

I tend to like cream pasta, but at a lot of places I get a bit sick of it by the end. Heui's carbonara, though, I enjoyed all the way to the last bite without getting tired of it!! The sauce wasn't too rich or too bland — right in the middle, ㅠㅠ. Really delicious, haha. Great atmosphere, and every dish was tasty — a good night out.
