When I’m craving a warm broth like this lately, one of the first things that comes to mind is shabu-shabu.

This time, I visited Yangcheon Shabu Son Kalguksu, Magok Main Branch, a great spot for a warm meal in Magok.

Along with shabu-shabu, you can enjoy handmade knife-cut noodles and dumplings here, so it was a great place for a hearty meal. If you’ve been looking for shabu-shabu near Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station, I think it would be worth a visit.

When you’re deciding on lunch or dinner in Magok, shabu-shabu is one of those choices that rarely goes wrong. You get vegetables and meat together, plus a warm broth, so I find myself looking for it fairly often too.
What I ordered and the prices

This time I ordered one serving of shabu-shabu (200 g) for ₩11,000, special rolled dumplings for ₩14,000, and handmade black garlic dumplings for ₩5,500. The total came to ₩30,500.
One serving of shabu-shabu meat
One serving of shabu-shabu, 200 g, ₩11,000 First up, the shabu-shabu I ordered as the main!

Shabu-shabu, where you lightly cook the meat in hot broth, seems delicious whenever I have it. If you cook it just enough to eat instead of leaving it too long, you can really enjoy the tender texture of the meat.

Eating only meat with shabu-shabu can get a little repetitive, so I also liked being able to have it with vegetables. With the warm broth too, it made for a satisfying full meal.

Especially now that mornings and evenings are gradually getting cooler, I find myself craving hot broth even more. That’s why I thought this would suit anyone looking for shabu-shabu near Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station.
Special rolled dumplings with shabu-shabu
Special rolled dumplings, ₩14,000 I also ordered dumplings alongside the shabu-shabu. If you usually love dumplings, I’d recommend ordering them together.

Dumplings and a brothy dish like shabu-shabu really do go well together. Have a bite of dumpling while eating shabu-shabu, then go back for some broth, and it feels so much more filling!

I especially liked that ordering several dishes to share gave us much more variety than having just one menu item.
Four handmade black garlic dumplings
Handmade black garlic dumplings, ₩5,500 And then there were the handmade black garlic dumplings, which I ordered because I was curious! They were unique because they contained black garlic rather than being ordinary dumplings. Since they aren’t something you see every day, they would be a good addition if you’d like to try a new kind of dumpling.

Adding dumplings to the shabu-shabu made the meal quite abundant, and I was happy to taste a little of several different dishes. Overall, it was a good place to visit when you want a warm, satisfying meal. Since you can enjoy everything from shabu-shabu to dumplings in one place, it also seemed fine for a family meal out or dinner with friends.

If you’re looking for lunch near Magok or craving warm broth for dinner, give it a visit. In particular, if you’re looking for shabu-shabu near Yangcheon Hyanggyo Station, I think you could enjoy shabu-shabu and dumplings together at Yangcheon Shabu Son Kalguksu, Magok Main Branch.
Final thoughts on slowly enjoying warm broth
Personally, what I liked was that shabu-shabu felt less heavy than I expected. Rather than eating only meat, you can eat it with vegetables and warm broth, so it really felt like I’d had a proper meal.

There’s also something fun about adding the ingredients one by one once the broth begins to boil, making it nice to enjoy more slowly and leisurely than an ordinary meal. A bite of warm cooked vegetables with meat, with sips of broth in between, made me feel warmed through! It felt like a menu I’d crave even more as the weather gradually turns cooler.

Ordering the dumplings was a good choice too. Shabu-shabu alone would have been enough, but adding side dishes one by one made the table feel much more plentiful. If you usually like dumplings, I think it would be nice to order them with the shabu-shabu and enjoy a range of flavors.
Magok has many offices as well as pleasant places for a walk, such as Seoul Botanic Park, so it seems like a good spot to consider for a weekday office lunch or a meal after a weekend outing. If you enjoy warm brothy dishes, you could also add it to your list when looking for restaurants near Seoul Botanic Park.

Above all, the menu seemed easy for people of all ages and preferences to enjoy, so it also looked like a decent choice for a family meal out. Next time, I’d like to order some other dishes too.
