Suwon Korean restaurant for grilled mackerel with parents: Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda

In short

Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch is a grilled-fish Korean restaurant in Suwon, Gyeonggi. I had a ₩16,000 grilled mackerel set with my parents, plus banchan, miyeok-guk, and a japchae self-service bar. Verdict: a comfortable, filling choice for a family meal.

Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch (고등어명품이되다 수원점) was a great Suwon Korean restaurant to take my parents to, since we could enjoy grilled fish along with a variety of Korean side dishes.

Spacious parking that made driving easy

The building is quite large, with parking in front, so it was easy to visit by car. Parking is something you quietly end up worrying about when going out to eat as a group, so I was happy with that. A great west Suwon restaurant when convenient parking matters.

Grilled mackerel and a wide range of fish

Their signature grilled mackerel is ₩16,000. There were many kinds of fish, including grilled Spanish mackerel, cutlassfish, croaker, tonguefish, and Atka mackerel. You can choose according to your tastes rather than sticking only to mackerel, which makes it nice for a family meal. The Premium Set seems to come as a generous spread with grilled mackerel and sashimi, too. I think I would order that for dinner.

Waiting and a bright, tidy dining room

There was also a Catchtable waiting system. As you would expect from a popular restaurant, there was a wait, but the place is large, so the line moved quickly. We were eighth in line and waited less than 10 minutes.

The waiting area was nicely set up like a cafeteria, and the interior was bright and clean, giving it more of a neat Korean restaurant feel than a typical grilled-fish spot. I have been wondering where to take the family for the Chuseok or holiday break, so I saved this one for now, haha.

A full Korean table with miyeok-guk and banchan

Once seated, we were served miyeok-guk (seaweed soup), japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), seasoned vegetables, and several other banchan (Korean side dishes). It was not just a single piece of grilled fish: with soup and side dishes too, it felt like a satisfying full Korean meal.

Once our grilled mackerel arrived, the whole table was complete. Golden-grilled fish with warm rice, miyeok-guk, and side dishes is such a familiar, delicious combination. Grilling fish at home can feel like a burden because of the smell, so it was also nice to eat it comfortably here.

Crispy outside, moist inside grilled mackerel

The mackerel in particular was a good size, with a nicely golden surface. It was crisp outside and moist inside, perfect with rice. A hearty Korean meal beats heavily seasoned food every time. If you are a Korean-food person, this is a combination you simply cannot dislike. It was the kind of spread my parents would enjoy.

The self-service bar where I refilled japchae twice

Beyond the basic side dishes, there is a separate self-service bar. We could bring back as much japchae and as many Korean side dishes as we wanted, and everything was kept very clean. The japchae here was seriously so good. I went back for two more refills just for that. You could polish off a meal with the side dishes alone.

Warm miyeok-guk and nutty sungnyung (scorched-rice tea) were also available to take as much as we wanted. After grilled fish and rice, finishing with warm sungnyung made it feel like a truly filling meal.

The real finish was sikhye (sweet rice drink). There was sikhye in the beverage corner too, so it was easy to help ourselves. Sweet sikhye as dessert made it perfect.

A comfortable grilled-fish meal with parents

Overall, this was an easy place for a family meal: the restaurant was spacious and clean, with grilled fish, varied side dishes, convenient parking, and a tidy atmosphere. If you are wondering where to take your parents for the upcoming Chuseok or holiday break, a grilled-fish spread like this could be a good choice. Godeungeo Myeongpumi Doeda Suwon Branch felt reasonably priced rather than excessive, and was a nice spot for a relaxed family meal.
