Pink-lit Euljiro snack bar, combo too big for two: Hyeonseoni-ne
In short
Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch (현선이네 청계즉석점) is an old-school instant tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) snack bar near Euljiro 1-ga Station, on the Cheonggyecheon side of Jung-gu, Seoul. After the lunch rush, the writer used the outdoor kiosk to order the Hyeonseoni combo set (tteokbokki, sundae, fritters, gimbap and fish cake) at medium spice. Two people couldn't finish it, and it came with a free chicken drumstick snack. If you want to try several Korean street snacks at once, the combo set at Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch is the one to order.

A snack bar near Euljiro 1-ga Station: old-school instant tteokbokki by Cheonggyecheon

How do you order at Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch?
At Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch (현선이네 청계즉석점), you order first at a kiosk outside the shop and then go in. It's close to Euljiro 1-ga Station, so it was easy to find. I wanted a quick lunch, so I dropped by this old-school snack bar near Euljiro 1-ga Station~

On the kiosk you can browse all kinds of snack-bar dishes. There was more variety than I expected, so it looked easy to pick whatever you like.

What's the atmosphere like inside?
Hyeonseoni-ne has that old pocha (street-tent bar), old-school vibe, but the air conditioning is strong, so it's comfortable. I checked the kiosk and went straight in~ It really felt like an old street-tent bar!
In the middle of the shop, under very pink lighting that really grabs the eye, there's a self-serve bar where you can help yourself to utensils, small plates and so on.
Even though it's a pocha, the air conditioning was cooling the place nicely, so it wasn't uncomfortable at all. Being able to eat comfortably made it even better~
They were also running a review event when I visited. The how-to-join instructions are posted in detail, so have a look.

I came after the lunch rush, but there were still customers and people kept coming in. You could really feel it's a go-to old-school snack bar in Euljiro.

A big menu board hangs on the wall, with everything from instant tteokbokki to sundae (Korean blood sausage), mini gimbap (seaweed rice rolls) and fritters.

What's in the Hyeonseoni combo set, and how big is it?
The Hyeonseoni combo set has tteokbokki, sundae, fritters, gimbap and fish cake, and it was very generous for two people. It's neatly laid out, so it may look small, but we couldn't finish it all.
The look was classic too, and great for photos~ As you can see, everything came neatly arranged on a tray: tteokbokki, sundae, fritters, fish cake and gimbap. A really full lineup.

As on the menu board, the combo is tteokbokki, sundae, fritters, gimbap and fish cake. If you want to try a bit of everything, the combo seemed like the right call~ And it was the right choice.

It looked delicious from the first glance. I usually just buy one or two items, so it had been a long time since I had a snack-bar spread this generous~
It looked like a lot, and it really was a lot. I think even three women could share it and be full.
How do you choose the tteokbokki spice level?
The tteokbokki comes in mild, medium or spicy, and I went with medium to keep it easy on myself. The hot fish cake broth was nice too.

The gimbap, sundae and fritters made it a solid lineup, which made me even happier. It was all tasty, so takeout next time would be good too.

How are the mini gimbap and assorted fritters?
The mini gimbap in the combo was also generously filled. It nailed both taste and looks.

The fritters had more variety than I expected, too. Getting assorted fritters together with tteokbokki and sundae (the classic "tteok-twigim-sun" trio) was the best.
Being able to choose the spice level is a big plus for the tteokbokki. They sell instant tteokbokki as well as the regular kind, so keep that in mind~

The gimbap was nice and filling too.

I even finished off the fish cake broth before leaving.

What free service do you get at Hyeonseoni-ne?
Hyeonseoni-ne Cheonggye Instant Branch even gave us a crispy chicken drumstick snack as a free extra~ It was a lunch I'll remember as an old-school Euljiro snack bar with instant tteokbokki.
