Hongdae salon for Sihyeonhada profile makeup and updo: Today Makeup

I'm recording my hair and makeup at Today Makeup (오늘메이크업) in Hongdae, done for this year's profile photo shoot.

Why choose Today Makeup for profile shoot hair and makeup?

I do a profile shoot every year with a different concept. This year the first digit of my age changed, and there was a concept I really wanted to try, so I booked a studio and a makeup salon and went.

The place I got my makeup and hair done is Today Makeup, well known as a Hongdae makeup salon. You can park on the building's 1st floor. (If it's full, use a nearby public parking lot.)

After parking, I went up to the 2nd floor and was shown in. The waiting area was bigger and more pleasant than I expected. I left my bags and coat and started the makeup.

The makeup space at Today Makeup had lighting set up like a photo studio. I'd heard that once you step under the strong lights on a shoot, your makeup looks like it's all gone. Here the lighting is well set up from the start, so you get your makeup done in actual shooting conditions, which I liked.

How does natural makeup for a profile photo work?

At Today Makeup, they first ask what kind of makeup you want. I told them it was for a profile shoot and that I wanted natural makeup.

First they prepped my skin texture and put on a sheet mask. My embarrassing bare face... I wondered how different I'd look after hair and makeup.

Every makeup artist has their own style, but mine left the mask on and did the eye makeup first, and I felt the makeup went on better that way. At home I usually mix foundations to match my tone, so I was curious about a foundation matched to me in one go, and I picked up some info too~

And so the makeup was done first! It looked natural, which made me like it even more. I was excited to see how different my frizzy, just-shampooed hair would look once styled.

Elegant updo: why add hair styling to your makeup

After the makeup I waited in the waiting area, then moved to the hair area. I can do curling-iron styling on my own to some extent, so I asked for an updo.

With the hair done too, the makeup stood out so much more! I felt that at Today Makeup in Hongdae you really should get the hair done as well. I loved it so, so much x100. My reference photo showed messier, more natural hair, but they asked what the photo was for and finished it at a suitable level. The little tail left down as an accent was a smart touch too~

How long does it take, and when should you book?

At Today Makeup, my makeup took about 1 hour and my hair about 30 minutes. Booking 2 to 2.5 hours before your shoot should fit just right. See the image below for the price list!

Profile shoot results at Sihyeonhada Hongdae Space

The profile studio I booked, Sihyeonhada (시현하다) Hongdae Space branch, was about 10 minutes by car from Today Makeup. To match the neat updo, I went with elegant, luxurious keywords for the shoot concept.

This was my fourth time at Sihyeonhada, and I got my personally favorite shot yet. I've shot there with self-done hair and makeup before, but seeing this shot I really felt how important hair and makeup are~ I loved it. People around me reacted really well too. haha

Sihyeonhada's profile shoot only gives you one photo, and the hair and makeup felt too good to waste, so I took four-cut photos too. This year's record: a success.
