Sindorim, Seoul bar for brisket and aged kimchi rice cake: Mugeunji

In short

Korean Suljip Mugeunji (한국술집 무근지) is a Korean bar on Saemal-ro in Guro, Seoul, a 5–6 minute walk from Sindorim Station Exit 2. On a weekday evening with a close friend, the writer sat near the wide-open front doors, which gave Korean Suljip Mugeunji a street-side, open-air feel, and ordered chadol mukeunji tteokjjim (braised beef brisket with aged kimchi and rice cakes, 26,000 won) and Terra draft beer (5,000 won). With tangy, well-aged kimchi and chewy rice cakes, the chadol mukeunji tteokjjim is a generous dish that goes just as well with soju as with beer.

I visited Sindorim after a while to meet up with a close friend! I heard there's a bar called 'Korean Suljip Mugeunji' (한국술집 무근지) in Sindorim with great vibes and good food, so I stopped by for a beer 💗

Exterior of Korean Suljip Mugeunji near Sindorim Station

Korean Suljip Mugeunji is about a 5-6 minute walk from Sindorim Station Exit 2! I visited at 6pm and there were already so many people there!!!

Does Korean Suljip Mugeunji have an open-air street bar feel?

The window-side seats at Korean Suljip Mugeunji had the doors wide open, so it really did feel like sitting at an outdoor tent bar (yajang)!! The weather was so nice and cool, and with the windows open the whole place felt so, so refreshing 💗

There's a menu board right at the entrance too, so you can check the menu before you even step inside!!

Full even on a weekday evening: seating at Mugeunji

Korean Suljip Mugeunji was completely full even on a weekday evening!! It really felt like a proper Sindorim hotspot — it was hard to even take interior photos because there were so many customers packed in so tightly...!!!

There's hall seating near the counter, and further inside there's another separate space!! It has about 4 tables, and that's where we were seated 💗

This seating area has a door connecting to the back space! That door was also wide open, so it felt cool and breezy with a lot of that open-tent atmosphere too 💗

The restroom is also inside the restaurant, so I really liked not having to step outside 😚

Complimentary side dishes and how to order at Mugeunji

The banchan (side dishes) at Korean Suljip Mugeunji are peas and pickled onion!! Instead of plain bottled water, they serve a tea like hutgae (Japanese raisin tree) water, which was an even nicer touch~

Each table has its own menu — you look through this menu, then order through the tablet at your table!!

What we ordered at Mugeunji and the prices

  • Chadol mukeunji tteokjjim ₩26,000
  • Terra draft beer ₩5,000

Terra draft beer for 5,000 won

The draft beer at Korean Suljip Mugeunji is Terra, served for ₩5,000 a glass. The draft came out first!! The weather was so nice and cool that a draft beer sounded absolutely perfect haha. Maybe because the seat was so breezy, it was just the kind of day where the draft beer went down really smoothly 💗

Chadol mukeunji tteokjjim (26,000 won): how are the taste and portion?

The main dish, chadol mukeunji tteokjjim (₩26,000), had a way bigger, more generous portion than I expected. I ordered it wanting something spicy, and it was exactly that kind of dish!! There's cheese melted on top of the beef brisket, aged kimchi, and rice cake!!

The aged kimchi was truly well-fermented — the kimchi itself was so tasty that wrapping the beef brisket in it was delicious too~

True to the name 'tteokjjim,' rice cake is mixed in too, and it was so chewy and tasty that my chopsticks kept going back for more! The sauce was packed with that kimchi aroma, giving the whole dish the distinctive tang of aged kimchi — it seemed like it would go great as a side dish for either soju or beer~

When to visit Korean Suljip Mugeunji in Sindorim

I really enjoyed the chadol mukeunji tteokjjim with the draft beer at Korean Suljip Mugeunji 🍺!! With the full windows open, the outside air felt so refreshing, and it was great for having a drink in that open, tent-like atmosphere! Visiting in the evening especially made the mood even better, and enjoying tasty side dishes with a cold draft beer really made it feel like a proper night out drinking haha.

If you're looking for a place in Sindorim where you can comfortably have a drink while still getting that open-tent feel, I think Korean Suljip Mugeunji is worth a visit 🤍
