Jamsil cake shop: aunt's birthday mini carnation cake, Circus Rabbit

In short

Circus Rabbit is a handmade lettering and flower cake shop on the first basement floor of Jangmi Shopping Complex Building B in Jamsil, Songpa, Seoul. The writer ordered an extra-mini carnation cake topped with red artificial carnations for 38,000 won as an aunt's birthday gift, picked it up at night from Circus Rabbit's unmanned fridge, and was pleased that it served 3–4 people and that the 100% dairy cream tasted light and clean. For an elegant flower cake for an older relative in the 30,000-won range, Circus Rabbit is a good choice.

How to find Circus Rabbit in Jangmi Shopping Complex

The fastest way to Circus Rabbit is to go in through Entrance 12 of Building B at Jamsil's Jangmi Shopping Complex and take the stairs on the left down to the basement. The complex is sneakily big and confusing, so if you have a bad sense of direction you might get lost at first! Let me show you a super simple shortcut that gets you there in one go. 🧐

Fastest walking route from the subway

Come out of Jamsil Station and keep walking toward Jangmi Shopping Complex. When you arrive, look for the huge sign saying "Building B, Entrance 12" and you've made it! Right after you go in, you'll see stairs going down on the left. Take them down, turn your head to the right and go straight, and the pink, adorable Circus Rabbit shop appears, ta-da! 🏃‍♀️

Extra-mini carnation cake for 38,000 won: how big, how did it taste?

What I ordered at Circus Rabbit was the "extra-mini carnation cake (red artificial carnations)," and the price was just ₩38,000! These days even a tiny lettering cake easily tops ₩40,000–50,000, so can you believe a cake with such pretty flowers is in the ₩30,000s? 😭

I worried that "extra-mini" might be too small, but when I got it, it wasn't tiny at all. It was just the right size for 3–4 people to share a slice each as dessert! The value is seriously unreal... 💸

The look is amazing too. Lovely ribbons are tucked all around the cake, so it looks lush the second you take it out of the box and photographs beautifully! 📸 My aunt loves flowers, and the moment she saw the cake she squealed that it was so pretty and took a gazillion photos. 🤣 She even changed her KakaoTalk profile picture that same evening! That's enough to make a niece feel proud, right?

And the taste? Oh, it's good too! Maybe because it uses 100% dairy cream, there was none of that cheap-cream feel that slides around your mouth or gets greasy. It was rich yet mellow and soft, so even the grown-ups who don't like sweets happily devoured it as dessert. A perfect taste, worthy of a top lettering cake spot in Jamsil, Songpa! ✨

One note: the flowers on fresh-flower cakes are cleaned and sanitized, but they are not edible, so be sure to take them off before eating!

How does night self-pickup at Circus Rabbit work?

For office workers who work late or can't visit during the day, Circus Rabbit runs night pickup through an unmanned fridge in front of the shop. I tried the unmanned pickup this time, and the system is really well organized. 🥰

Always check the finished cake photo before pickup

Before unmanned pickup starts, the owner sends a photo of the finished cake by KakaoTalk (for KakaoTalk bookers) or text message (for Naver bookers). Packing only goes ahead once you've checked together that the lettering has no typos and the design is right, so you must reply! Please note that no changes are possible once unmanned pickup has started!

How to use the self-pickup fridge, step by step

On the left side in front of the shop, the unmanned fridge stands proudly! (CCTV is recording for safety, so don't worry 📹) Check the password in your text message and follow the steps below.

  • Enter the password you were given on the lock exactly.
  • After entering it, be sure to open the hinge latch (the fridge door only opens once the hinge is open!).
  • Open the fridge door and double-check the name and the last 4 digits of the phone number on your cake! (Don't touch anyone else's cake 🙅‍♀️)
  • Carefully take out your cake and set it down somewhere safe for a moment.
  • Close the fridge door and fasten the hinge again.
  • Lock the padlock and turn the dial a bit so the password isn't visible.
  • Reply to the owner by KakaoTalk or text with "Pickup complete!" and you're done!

Carrying and storing the cake after pickup

Carry a Circus Rabbit cake level, and get it into the fridge within 1 hour in summer or 2 hours in winter. Getting such a pretty cake home without it getting crushed is really important, right? I'll share the tips the owner gave me too. 🎀

  • ✔ Keeping it level is everything: Cakes are fragile when shaken, so hold it level. If you came by car, the seat cushion is sloped and risky! Put it somewhere 100% flat, like the floor of the front or back seat, and drive carefully. (Parking at Jangmi Shopping Complex is free for 30 minutes!)
  • ✔ Refrigeration time: It's a fresh cream cake with no preservatives, so it must go straight into the fridge within 1 hour in summer and 2 hours in winter to keep the cream from collapsing and keep it tasty.
  • ✔ Thoughtful basics: The cake knife is tucked into the right side of the box! Pop open the cap at the back of the knife handle and you'll find matches for lighting candles, so you don't need to bring any.
  • ✔ Eco tip: If you need a cold pack, you can buy one at the shop for ₩2,000! But if you bring your own cooler box, insulated bag or ice pack, you protect the environment and save money, two birds with one stone. 🌿
