Gwangjin ramen restaurant for Mega Iekei and draft beer: Ramen Truck

There is nothing quite like an ice-cold draft beer and a steaming, richly flavored bowl of ramen on the way home from work to blow away a whole day’s fatigue. I visited Ramen Truck Konkuk University Branch, a place ramen fans have been raving about for its rich broth and generous toppings.

Here is my honest, self-funded review after enjoying the striking Mega Iekei Ramen, handmade karaage that was crisp outside and juicy inside, and wonderfully good-value happy-hour draft beer.

Ramen Truck Konkuk University Branch, close to Children's Grand Park Station

Location: 1st floor, 18 Gwangnaru-ro 22ga-gil, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It is only a 2–3 minute walk from Exit 3 of Children's Grand Park Station on Line 7, so it is very easy to reach. Hours: Daily 11:00–20:30 (last order 20:00) Parking: There is no dedicated parking, so I recommend using the nearby Children's Grand Park parking lot.

A kiosk at the entrance lets you order your menu and topping options quickly and easily.

Inside, there are tables for two to four people as well as plenty of counter seats in front of the kitchen, making it a very comfortable spot for a solo meal or drink after work.

Happy-hour draft beer that washes away after-work fatigue

The first thing to greet me once I sat down was an ice-cold Red Rock draft beer. Thanks to the happy-hour event beginning at 5 p.m., I could knock back a freshly poured glass for the easygoing price of ₩2,000.

The fizz and slightly bitter hop flavor went down cool and clean, and it felt as if the weariness of the day melted away in an instant.

Mega Iekei Ramen with deep umami

Yokohama-style Iekei ramen combines rich tonkotsu pork broth with the clean flavor of shoyu (soy sauce), making for a ramen with real depth and impact. I absolutely agree that this is a true ramen hotspot!! The broth was so rich and delicious.

The Mega Iekei Ramen arrived with an eye-catching abundance of toppings: chashu pork, nori seaweed, spinach, and a soft-boiled egg (ajitama) piled beautifully across the bowl.

Deep, rich broth

Rather than adding ground pork fat, the broth is simmered for a long time, giving it a rich, clean oiliness without feeling greasy. It is substantial and bursting with umami, making you feel satisfyingly full from just one sip.

Chewy noodles and ajitama

The springy noodles soaked up the broth beautifully and had a wonderful chew. The sweet-salty soft-boiled egg, gently seasoned all the way through, simply melted in my mouth.

Refresh your palate with yuzu pickled radish

Have some of the tangy yuzu pickled radish served as a basic side dish midway through the meal. It refreshes your palate, so you can enjoy every last bite without getting tired of the flavors.

Handmade karaage on the side

Handmade karaage (Japanese fried chicken) is the side dish that absolutely cannot be left out of a ramen-and-beer pairing. Clearly different from frozen products, it was crispy on the outside and full of tender, juicy meat inside—every bite drew an impressed reaction.

Dip it generously into the savory mayonnaise sauce topped with a little shichimi spice, then take a sip of cold draft beer. That is the ultimate comforting pairing, like a reward for making it through the day.
