Haeundae mackerel restaurant with DIY sushi and pomfret: Haneobuui
In short
Haneobuui Godeungeosarang Haeundae is a live-mackerel sashimi restaurant a 5-minute walk from Haeundae Station Exit 7 in Busan. The 50,000 won per person mackerel table set ran from mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and shrimp sushi starters to dry-ice mackerel sashimi, self-serve mackerel sushi you build on gamtae seaweed with sushi rice, 500°C wood-fired grilled mackerel and a 6-hour aged kimchi braise, with Korean pomfret braised with radish served free. Portions at Haneobuui Godeungeosarang were so generous that the grilled mackerel arrived when everyone was already full.

One-line verdict: A real mackerel restaurant that has conquered Haeundae with flawless freshness and overwhelming generosity — not a single letdown.

How long is the walk from Haeundae Station to Haneobuui Godeungeosarang?
Haneobuui Godeungeosarang Haeundae is just 5 minutes from Exit 7 of Haeundae Station, so it's wonderfully accessible even for travelers on foot. The moment I got to Haeundae I was craving fresh sashimi, so I headed to this place, well known as a Haeundae sashimi lunch spot 🏃♀️.

Walking in, the spacious, airy 66-seat hall and the cool floor-to-ceiling window view were instantly refreshing ✨. There are also private rooms for a more intimate meal, perfect for family gatherings. And free parking for 8 cars right in the middle of Haeundae is a huge plus if you're driving 🚗.

What comes in the 50,000 won mackerel table set?
The mackerel table set lets you enjoy mackerel sashimi, grilled mackerel, and stewed mackerel all in one meal for ₩50,000 per person. Sitting down and browsing the tablet menu, I saw all kinds of dishes made with freshly caught live mackerel 📝.

Mulhoe starter big enough to be a main dish
Before the main course, a lavishly spread table of banchan (side dishes) — enough to make the table legs buckle — was set down first.

The mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) that came as a basic side was good enough to sell as a standalone dish 😲. While most Haeundae mulhoe spots use a gochujang-based broth with a sharp, tongue-piercing sourness, this restaurant's broth had a subtle, deep fruity sweetness that stayed soft and refreshing from first sip to last, whetting the appetite.

The shrimp sushi with its plump rice, plus salty grilled shrimp heads, made my mouth very happy.
The kimchi pancake, crisp at the edges, and the cool memil guksu (buckwheat noodles) coated my tongue with their distinct flavors the moment I took a bite, building serious anticipation for the meal ahead.
Is the mackerel sashimi at Haneobuui Godeungeosarang fishy?
The mackerel sashimi at Haneobuui Godeungeosarang had absolutely zero fishy smell. Finally, today's star — the mackerel sashimi — arrived, releasing a mysterious puff of dry ice smoke 😍.
Picking up a thick slice with chopsticks, I could feel its firm bounce straight through my fingertips. While well-aged flounder sashimi tends to release sweetness the more you chew, this mackerel sashimi was more like quality fatty tuna — the fat's savoriness spread the instant it touched my mouth and melted away. Each bite had a crisp first texture followed by rich, pleasant fattiness that stimulated the palate.
How to build the self-serve mackerel sushi with gamtae seaweed
Another highlight here: fragrant gamtae (seaweed) is served as a basic side along with shari (vinegared sushi rice), so you can build your own 'self-made mackerel sushi' to taste! I placed the plump, vinegar-seasoned rice on the soft gamtae, added a thick piece of mackerel sashimi and some crunchy white kimchi, and took a big bite.

The gamtae's deep ocean aroma, the mackerel's rich savoriness, and the white kimchi's clean tang struck a perfect balance in my mouth, exploding with umami the more I chewed.

Popping the rich mackerel wrap in my mouth and washing it down with Busan soju was, quite literally, like swallowing the whole ocean in one perfect combination 🍶.

The free Korean pomfret braised with radish
Just as I'd nearly finished the mackerel sashimi and was waiting for the main course, the owner kindly surprised me with a precious domestic pomfret braised with radish — on the house! I was impressed by the perfect timing, keeping the flow between sashimi and the meal seamless.
The tofu, soaked in a sweet-salty house soy sauce marinade, split apart softly the moment I picked it up with chopsticks and melted savorily in my mouth.

The thickly cut radish, braised until soft, crumbled the instant a spoon touched it, and the pomfret's soft, clean flesh paired beautifully with crisp raw onion. I was won over once again by the restaurant's generosity, and the main dish hadn't even arrived yet 💖.

500°C wood-fired mackerel and 6-hour aged kimchi braise
Just as I was finishing the sashimi, the grilled mackerel — fresh off a 500°C wood-fired oven — and the aged kimchi stew arrived. If I had to name a single drawback, it's that the appetizers and sashimi alone were so generous that by the time the true rice-thieves — the stew and the grilled mackerel — showed up, I was already stuffed 😂. Anyone visiting should definitely go with a loosened belt!
The plump fried shrimp served alongside was golden and crisp on the outside, with springy shrimp meat inside adding a satisfying texture.

The moment chopsticks touched the wood-fired mackerel, the crisp skin shattered and salty, juicy flesh burst out beneath, practically demanding a spoonful of rice.
The kimchi stew, simmered for 6 hours, had a heavy, spicy sauce soaked deep into the mackerel flesh. Mixing the finely shredded aged kimchi into rice gave a tongue-numbingly rich, deep umami. These two dishes alone explained why local office workers rave about this as a Haeundae sashimi lunch spot 👍.

The restaurant is also running a receipt review and Naver save event with great perks, so don't miss it!

Is Haneobuui Godeungeosarang Haeundae worth a second visit?
Every dish that hit the table was packed with excellent quality and generous portions, leaving zero room for disappointment. The owner even handed out free cold ice water on the way out for guests visiting in the hot weather — a thoughtful touch that made me feel well cared for the entire time 🧊.

At the entrance, they also sell wood-fired mackerel and pomfret for takeout, so you can bring this experience home or to a pension.
I don't usually get impressed easily by restaurants, but this one made me swear I'd put it as the very first stop on my next Busan trip 😊. If you want genuinely fresh, unforgettable flavors in Haeundae, I highly recommend Haneobuui Godeungeosarang.
