Seongsu Station silver ring class: a mother-daughter date, Robenta

I went to the ring workshop Robenta Seongsu in Seongsu with my mom!!

When I was little, I went everywhere holding my mom's hand, but once I grew up I used "I'm busy with my own life" as an excuse and never had a proper date with her. That suddenly made me feel bad. So I decided to go all out and look for an unusual date idea, and I booked a pretty ring workshop!!

Where is Robenta Seongsu and what is it like inside?

Robenta Seongsu is close to Seongsu Station Exit 3. It is on the 3rd floor of the building where Sanbyeot Real Estate (산볕부동산) is.

I was surprised the moment I opened the door. Clean European-style interior, and there is even a separate space for photographing rings with so much mood. Neat, clean!!! Aprons, gloves and everything else are already set up, so you just have to show up.

Maybe it's because the designs are said to be developed by a jewelry designer with 30 years of experience, but they weren't the common designs you see at ordinary workshops. The rings are so pretty!!!

How much is a ring-making class at Robenta Seongsu?

The one-day class at Robenta Seongsu costs between ₩75,000 and ₩145,000 per ring, with VAT and gemstone costs all included. Look at the rings and the prices: the price in the same position is that ring's price, and if you pay just that amount you can make the ring with no extra fees.

Couples, friends, families, you should all come! Get your couple rings made here!! The ring quality is amazing!! The choice was huge, from simple styles to sculptural shapes and sparkly gemstone designs.

Couples don't have to pick the same ring; you can choose a design that suits your own taste and hand shape. My mom and I each picked a different design too.

The only extras are optional ones like plating, lettering engraving and sizing up to 20 and above, which cost roughly ₩10,000 to ₩20,000 each, and they tell you about these before you start too!!

How long it takes and same-day ring pickup

Making the ring takes 1 hour in total, so keep that in mind. After you finish, hang out nearby for about 1 hour 30 minutes and they will contact you when it's done. Then you can pick it up the same day!!

What is making silver rings with Mom like at Robenta Seongsu?

The experience at Robenta Seongsu starts with measuring your finger size → choosing a ring design → deciding whether to work on your own ring or make each other's rings!! We decided to each make our own and sat down.

I put on an apron and gloves and spent an hour filing and sanding the ring. I was worried because I'm clumsy and not good with my hands, but the staff kept coming over at every step and explaining kindly, so it was easy and fun enough that even a kindergartner could follow.

My mom said, "I like making things," and I was so surprised. I honestly had no idea about her tastes. Seeing her work so happily and so hard really touched my heart.

In the drawer on the table, everything from files to the various tools used for sanding is neatly set up!!

Every seat also has a phone stand, so you can keep the whole ring-making process as a timelapse. Sitting together with my mom and making rings was so much fun. It's honestly a good memory I'll never forget.

Smoothing the surface and buffing the silver ring

First you smooth the bumpy surface of the ring with the rough side of the file stick, and you have to be careful because if you overdo it, one side can end up thinner.

Once the surface is tidied, you gently sand the ring. Ours had a design on the front, so the instructor drew lines with a pen to mark it!! If you file or work below the line you ruin it, so we worked carefully without crossing the marked line!! My mom was so excited!!

The machine runs when you press the foot pedal, and the instructor explained everything step by step before we used it, so we managed without any trouble. Just watching it turn into a shiny silver ring was totally healing.

Is Robenta Seongsu a good stop on a Seongsu date course?

The Robenta Seongsu building is a 5-minute walk from Seongsu Station Exit 3, so the location is really the best!! Leave your ring, go around the pretty cafés and little shops on Yeonmujang-gil nearby, and the timing works out perfectly, so there's zero wasted movement for a date course.

What material are Robenta rings, and is there after-service?

The rings made at Robenta Seongsu are Silver 925!!! Don't throw away the after-service guide paper (warranty) and the silver cleaning cloth you get when you pick up the ring. Keep them, and if you stop by a branch later or the ring loses a bit of its shine, bring them in and every branch will care for it for free, from cleaning to polishing, so don't miss this benefit!

I heard that Robenta isn't just a franchise; every branch is directly run. So even if you made your ring at the Seongsu branch, if you visit another directly run branch in Seoul later, you can get the same professional after-service and care. Make good use of this when you visit a branch on a trip or for an appointment.

Can you skip the wait at Robenta Seongsu by booking ahead?

I booked Robenta Seongsu ahead, and they looked after just the two of us, with no unnecessary waiting, so we could spend private time right away. The packaging box and shopping bag that hold the ring were also made to high-end jewelry brand standards to match the European interior, I was told. They put our rings in this pretty bag and box!!

How good were the finished Silver 925 rings?

I was surprised when I got the finished ring. It was so pretty. The quality is amazing!! Usually at places like this you get the ring by courier a few days later or wait a long time, but Robenta Seongsu works on a same-day completion, same-day pickup system. After the class you don't need to wait in the shop; just go enjoy more of Seongsu. They contact you when it's about done, so you just drop by during opening hours and pick it up, done!!

Also, the stone designs use moissanite, known for its brilliance and durability, instead of cheap cubic zirconia, so even from a distance it looks classy, like you ordered really expensive couple rings. In the middle, the instructor also took lovely Polaroid photos for us, which left us with a cute memory different from phone photos.

When the ring was finished I put it on my mom's hand myself, and she was as happy as a child. I only just found out this time that she likes this kind of thing so much. I'd always felt sorry that we never had things to do together, so I resolved to go on unusual dates like this often from now on!
