Hapjeong Exit 6 pizzeria with Pomodoro pasta: Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza
In short
Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza is a wood-fired pizzeria on Dokmak-ro 7-gil, near Exit 6 of Hapjeong Station in Mapo, Seoul. The order was a Quattro Stagioni pizza with the four best-selling flavors in two slices each, a Pomodoro pasta and a cider, and the end of the pizza crust went straight into the tomato sauce while the wood oven in the open kitchen stayed in full view. Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza is a good choice when one flavor isn't enough and you want several pizzas on a single pie.

Lately I keep craving wood-fired pizza — crispy outside, chewy inside! I had plans to meet someone and was trying to figure out where to go, so I ended up at Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza (홍대화덕피자), which people rave about. Ever feel like one flavor just isn't enough and you want to try several pizzas at once? Let me introduce this Hapjeong restaurant, a Hongdae pizza spot near Sangsu Station.

Where is Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza? Right by Hapjeong Station Exit 6
Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza was close to Exit 6 of Hapjeong Station. The address is 5 Dokmak-ro 7-gil, 1st floor, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea.
The exterior had such a warm, welcoming look that I could spot it at a glance. The interior was decorated with real style, too — it caught my eye right away.
What we ordered at Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza: Quattro Stagioni and Pomodoro pasta
We ordered four things in total.
- Quattro Stagioni pizza (four best-selling flavors / 8 slices)
- Pomodoro pasta
- Cider
- Pickles (free)

Before the food arrived, they even read us an explanation card. The naturally fermented process, made without artificial seasoning, really stood out!
First, a sip of the cider was like rain after a drought. The crisp fizz swept my mouth clean, resetting my palate so I could enjoy everything from start to finish. On top of that, the crunchy, tangy pickles were the perfect move — their refreshing bite kept the pizza and pasta perfectly balanced.

I hadn't had Italian food in a while and wanted something delicious to switch things up, so I came here. Now let's get into the actual taste review!

Whew... just looking at it feels satisfying, right? Savoring each flavor one by one was such a fulfilling time.
How does the Pomodoro pasta taste? Tangy whole tomatoes
First we savored Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza's Pomodoro pasta. The fresh, deep tomato aroma that hit us the second it was served made my mouth water instantly. This sauce wasn't the sharp, artificially sweet flavor of store-bought sauce! It was made by simmering fresh tomatoes down slowly, so the deep umami and tang of the real fruit came through fully.

The aroma and flavor gently melted into the sauce, keeping everything in balance — the first bite wrapped my tongue in deep flavor.
The noodles held the sauce so well that when I twirled them onto a fork and took a bite, it felt like a burst of tangy-sweet, juice-like sauce filled my whole mouth.
Behind the springy chew of the noodles came the freshness of big tomato chunks, showing off the cleanest possible finish.

Halfway through, I dipped the chewy end of the pizza crust straight into this sauce, and it felt like a whole new dish was born on the spot. They'd added tantalizing cheese on top too, which was such a nice touch.
Twirling it all up on a fork like this — pure happiness.

Quattro Stagioni: all four flavors on one pizza
Next, the real charm of this pizza starts the moment it hits the table, with that distinctive smoky aroma that grabs your nose right away. Because it's flash-fired at high heat inside the wood oven, the crust's surface is left with a few appetizing char marks! Every time you bite into that part, the smoky aroma and crispness instantly lift the umami across your whole mouth.

And best of all, the four best-selling flavors were divided evenly into two slices each, so switching slices felt like trying a completely new dish every time — genuinely fun.
- Quattro Formaggi
- Croccante
- Margherita
- Diavola
The more I chewed, the more the doughy heaviness disappeared, replaced by the clean, nutty flavor unique to wood-fired pizza dough, spreading quietly through each bite.

The nutty, salty richness of the cheese wrapped around my mouth. The creamy stretch of the cheese paired beautifully with the smoky crust.
The tangy tomato sauce and fragrant toppings burst through, resetting my palate to something clean and refreshing in an instant. This truly deserves its reputation as a Hapjeong restaurant, a Hongdae pizza spot near Sangsu Station!

Each of the four slices showed off such a distinct personality that I never got bored — every bite until the pizza was gone felt new.
What is the pizza dough like at Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza?
What impressed me most was the dough's texture. From the moment I picked up a slice, the outside crackled pleasantly like a cracker, while the inside held moisture and was chewy and soft like rice cake — a definite twist.

That signature chewiness, together with the subtle juiciness that seeped out and mingled with the rich cheese, delivered a deep, classic umami.
When one flavor just isn't enough and you want to try several pizzas at once, this was exactly the dish for that! ^_^
Seating and atmosphere: is Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza good for a date or a group?
At Hongdae Hwadeok Pizza, you could tell they'd put thought into everything from the lighting to table spacing to every little decor piece. The warm, cozy lighting made photos come out beautifully, and the space had that Hongdae-style blend of sentimental and relaxed atmosphere. It felt just right for a date or a group gathering.

The lighting was really pretty too. Every angle looked great — I couldn't stop taking photos.
Every table was spotless, without a speck of dust, and the basic tableware and pickle containers were all neatly arranged. The store was clean overall and well managed for smell too, so I could focus fully on the meal.

There was enough space between tables that it never felt cramped, so we could chat comfortably without worrying about the next table over. The little decor pieces nearby were so cute too, haha.
A big, impressive wood oven set into one side of the restaurant really grabbed my attention! Since it's an open kitchen, you can actually watch the pizzas go into the oven and turn golden brown — fun to watch, and reassuring too.

The owner and staff greeted us warmly and were so kind — thank you so much. >_< Wishing them health and happiness always..!
