Seocho jazz restaurant for a live-music date: Flat Nine

In short

Flat Nine is a jazz dining restaurant in Seocho, Seoul, where guests can enjoy a course meal alongside live jazz. I tried the Classic course, from a cranberry-lemon-mint opening drink to Jeju black pork tenderloin steak and chocolate cake, while watching the Soyeong Quartet. You can reserve in advance through Naver Booking. Most weekday performances start at 8 PM and weekend performances start from 4 PM, though times can vary by schedule. I think it is best to check the day’s performance schedule in the News tab on Flat Nine’s Naver Place page before visiting and making a reservation.

Overall, the black-toned interior felt calm and refined, very much like a jazz dining space where you enjoy the music, food, and setting together. It was quiet and relaxed throughout, so it would suit a day when you want a meal that feels a little more special than usual, or when you are looking for an anniversary restaurant.

The order of the Classic course

I ordered the Classic course meal so I could try the various dishes one by one~

You can choose alcoholic or non-alcoholic, and I went with the alcoholic option. Made with cranberry, lemon, and mint, it was refreshing with a subtle sweetness—so tasty~

Flat Nine dauphinoise amuse-bouche

The first amuse-bouche was dauphinoise. It felt like having a very fancy hash brown! Its layered texture made it even crispier.

Focaccia and olive oil with squid-and-Korean melon carpaccio

Next came focaccia with olive oil. The olive oil smelled wonderful, and with the simple focaccia, it was seriously delicious!

This was the accompanying squid-and-Korean melon carpaccio. I fell for the pretty presentation first, and the squid and Korean melon combination was new yet worked so well. The spicy sauce underneath, chewy squid, and refreshing Korean melon came together beautifully.

Then came the mille-feuille lasagna. Its stacked layers gave it lots of textures, and the crisp-baked exterior was especially appealing ❤️ The rich cheese flavor added to the ragù sauce made it delicious.

Finally, the main: Jeju black pork tenderloin steak! This was my top pick of the day ❤️ A green herb crust covered the outside, while the sliced pork showed a rosy interior, so the presentation caught my eye first. The black pork was so tender, with aromatic herb crust and mango purée creating layers of flavor.

Flat Nine nutty chocolate cake

Dessert was chocolate cake! It was a moist chocolate cake topped with house-made cream cheese and nutty nuts. Finishing with a sweet dessert made the whole course feel satisfyingly well put together.

The live jazz performance with dinner

One of the biggest reasons I chose Flat Nine was the live jazz performance. The Soyeong Quartet began at 8 PM that evening, and being able to hear live music right in front of me while dining was what set it apart from an ordinary Gangnam restaurant.

When calm, romantic songs came on, the romantic mood was absolutely overflowing, making it perfect for a Gangnam Station date with your partner. And when they sang upbeat, rhythmic songs, the atmosphere came even more alive and lifted my mood too.

There were piano and double-bass solo sections in between as well. It was not simply one vocal performance after another; there was time to focus on each instrument, which I think music lovers would enjoy even more.

I recommend Flat Nine for these occasions

  • Anyone looking for a restaurant date spot near Sinnonhyeon
  • Anyone planning a Gangnam Station date
  • Anyone looking for an atmospheric Gangnam date itinerary
  • Anyone seeking a restaurant with a lovely atmosphere for an anniversary or special day
  • Anyone who wants to enjoy a course meal and live jazz together
  • Anyone looking for a space to enjoy music with cocktails

Final thoughts: food and music in one place

Flat Nine jazz dining experience

Flat Nine felt less like a restaurant where you simply eat and more like a jazz dining experience where music, food, and atmosphere come together in one place. In particular, being able to enjoy a live jazz performance throughout the meal made it feel well suited to a date that is a little different from the usual. If you are looking for an atmospheric restaurant in Gangnam, a Sinnonhyeon restaurant date, or a Gangnam Station date spot, Flat Nine is worth adding to your list!
