Brunch café by Ulsan City Hall: mother-daughter date at Benetto

Benetto is a grilled sandwich brunch café in front of City Hall in Nam-gu, Ulsan. The writer visited Benetto with her mom on a mother-daughter date before a wedding and ordered the house-cured jambon (ham) and Mexican beef grilled sandwiches (₩9,000 each), an iced americano (₩4,000) and ginger tea (₩6,000). Because a mom who doesn't drink coffee can enjoy Benetto's ginger tea, Benetto is a good brunch spot for families with different tastes.

Gangnam restaurant, wedding-invite meal with bosses: The Mignon Seoul

The Mignon Seoul is a European-style Western restaurant on Gangnam-daero 102-gil near Gangnam Station, Seoul. The writer first ate the 2-person set (48,600 won) at The Mignon Seoul while handing out wedding invitations over a meal, then chose it again for the same occasion with work bosses, ordering Jean Balmont Cabernet Sauvignon, an apple butter jambon open sandwich, chestnut gnocchi and puttanesca pasta à la carte. The food and atmosphere satisfied on both visits, and the chestnut gnocchi was the standout dish, good enough to order a second time.

Jamsil Italian wedding invite meetup: barley risotto at Mano di Chef

Mano di Chef Jamsil Branch is a Blue Ribbon Italian restaurant on the B1 level of Tower 730 near Jamsil Station in Songpa, Seoul. At a wedding invitation meetup with friends, the writer ordered the 2-person Special Set: gamtae (thin seaweed) pesto & seafood barley risotto, chamsongi mushroom cream gnocchi and steak pizza. The writer's top pick was the gamtae barley risotto. With chandeliers, brick walls and spaces divided by glass doors, Mano di Chef Jamsil Branch was a satisfying place for the meetup.

Robatayaki Sodam Guro Digital Complex Branch is a Japanese-style izakaya at the start of the Kkalkkal food street in Guro, Seoul. Three women ordered Set 5 (small sashimi, assorted skewers and oden nabe) for 58,000 won, then added chicken skin skewers for 6,000 won and grilled mero for 29,000 won. With many room-style 4-person booths, Robatayaki Sodam suits group dinners and company get-togethers.

Thai noodle lunch in Guro, Seoul: seated at noon at Thai Du

Thai Du Guro Digital Complex Branch is a Thai restaurant on the first floor of Dongil Techno Town, near Guro Digital Complex Station in Seoul. Walking in right at 12:00, we ordered the signature rice noodle soup for 11,000 won, tom yum rice noodle soup for 12,000 won, a single-serving pu pad pong curry at the 18,000-won lunch price, and shrimp spring rolls, and a line formed just after the peak. The tangy tom yum noodle soup and the soft shell crab in the pu pad pong curry were the most memorable dishes at Thai Du.

Yeoksam eel restaurant with private blind seating for three: Unagiwa

Unagiwa is an eel rice bowl (hitsumabushi) restaurant on the second floor of a building on Bongeunsa-ro 30-gil near Yeoksam Station in Gangnam, Seoul. Visiting with two friends, the writer ordered three Sang-size hitsumabushi sets and ate them four different ways, and staff lowered the blind behind the table once the next seats filled up, making the meal private. With the Naver review event matcha pudding and Japanese-style sikhye rounding it off, Unagiwa suits an important get-together or a meal with parents.

Korean bar in Sindorim, Seoul: special combo platter for 3, Mugeunji

Korean Suljip Mugeunji is a Korean bar near Sindorim Station in Guro, Seoul. Three adults shared the Special Combo (aged kimchi jjamppong + boiled pork + cheese potato pancake) for ₩66,400 plus an order of volcano shrimp tempura, and the cheese potato pancake was the standout dish. With a folk-style exterior featuring earthenware jars and a surprisingly modern interior, it's also a good pick for a date.
