Mullae restaurant for mentaiko monjayaki: Jojo Mullae Branch

In short

Jojo Mullae Branch is a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. I tried the mentaiko monjayaki set for two, Waterfall Potato, and spicy yakisoba while watching everything cook on the grill. Verdict: a fun, memorable date-night meal for first-time monjayaki diners.

Jojo Mullae Branch, which caught my eye with its brick exterior

Jojo Mullae Branch had such a pretty brick exterior. Maybe that is why it stood out even from a distance!

The exterior was completely my style, so I had a good feeling from the start!

I was even more curious before visiting because this is where you can try teppanyaki from the chef known as the “griddle master” on Black and White Chef! We arrived at around 6:40 after work, and it filled up right before us. 🥹

Waiting area and outdoor menu at Jojo Mullae Branch

A table opened up quickly, but they seated us only after clearing the grill, so there was a little more of a wait than I expected. While waiting, we looked over the menu outside and picked what to eat in advance, haha. If you want to enjoy Jojo Mullae Branch without waiting, I recommend making a reservation! They only take reservations at certain times on weekends, so it would be best to check before you go.

Inside, the brick from the exterior continued alongside neat wood tones. It felt warm yet tidy, and looked like a great date spot for couples wanting to try something a little different. ☺️

And the thing that immediately caught my eye was the griddle right in the middle of the table!! I do not often get the chance to eat teppanyaki, so this was even my first time seeing a grill like this since coming to Seoul, haha. A country mouse, you know..

Once we sat down, there was mayonnaise and teriyaki sauce on the table. I still do not know what the sauce in the middle was..!

Having seen monjayaki in photos, I was curious about this menu item. So we ordered the monjayaki set for two.

Monjayaki set for two order

When we ordered the monjayaki set, they asked us to write down our nickname ourselves. They said they would put it on a little flag later, and these tiny details were just so cute, you know? 🤭

Monjayaki starting to cook on the grill

The main event, monjayaki, arrived, and cooking started right away on the hot griddle. 🤭

They stir-fried it right in front of us—tap tap tap tap—and their hands moved so quickly, haha. It was so dynamic! Since it was my first teppanyaki experience, the cooking process itself was fascinating.

If you watch closely, before you know it the monjayaki is done—and it looks just a tiny bit like, um, pigeon poop (?) haha. The white cubes that look like kkakdugi are rice cakes, and their chewy texture made them such a treat! 🤭 🥢The owner's dynamic moves!!🥢

They told us it would be ready to eat in about 5 minutes, then came back to check how well it had cooked. They said to scrape and eat it once the edges had crisped up on the grill, and those crispy bits really were so delicious. 🤍

Waterfall Potato and spicy yakisoba

Waterfall Potato

Waterfall Potato menu item
Fluffy mashed potato

I have always loved old-school salad. Is it scary because it is such a familiar flavor? The mashed potato was fluffy and soft, with a taste that kept making me reach for more! And the name, Waterfall Potato, was so cute and stuck in my mind, haha.

The nickname we had written earlier was for sticking right into the Waterfall Potato!! With a cute detail like this, I simply could not not take another photo.

Spicy yakisoba

Spicy yakisoba included in the set

The spicy yakisoba was also part of the set, but this one came out already cooked from the kitchen. It was a little salty for my taste, but it was more delicious than I expected, so I kept reaching for it!

Spicy yakisoba with egg yolk

Once I popped the egg yolk and mixed it in, it became soft and rich and went even better with the noodles. It paired well with the salty yakisoba and was surprisingly addictive the more I ate!

Enjoying spicy yakisoba with a friend

It suited my friend's taste, too, judging by how happily they ate it. ☺️

Teppanyaki that was fun even on my first try

It was my first time trying monjayaki, and it was a huge success! Rather than simply eating a finished dish, we could enjoy the process of watching it cook right in front of us, which makes it perfect for a date!! They checked again that the food was cooked and even showed us how to eat it deliciously, so it was not difficult even for a first-timer like me, haha.

If you are looking for a good restaurant in Mullae-dong and want something a little different from your usual meal, Jojo Mullae Branch is worth remembering. 🤍 Next time, I am going to book ahead and visit without the wait, haha. It is the kind of place that makes me want to try the other teppanyaki dishes I missed this time, one by one. ☺️
