Egg fried rice and plum slush at Magok hot pot spot: Yangcheon Shabu

In short

Yangcheon Shabu Son Kalguksu, Magok Main Branch is a shabu-shabu and hand-cut noodle (kalguksu) restaurant on the first floor of Magok Botanic Park Plaza in Gangseo, Seoul, near Yangcheonhyanggyo Station and Seoul Botanic Park. The writer ordered the special nourishing black garlic shabu kalguksu for two and added extra shabu meat plus a raw egg for the fried rice, eating it as a course from meat to hand-cut noodles to perilla oil five-color rice, then a plum slush for dessert. Even the standard set was filling enough to make Yangcheon Shabu Son Kalguksu a good-value lunch.

What is Yangcheon Shabu Son Kalguksu, Magok Main Branch?

Yangcheon Shabu Son Kalguksu, Magok Main Branch is a shabu kalguksu (hand-cut noodle) specialty restaurant on the first floor of Magok Botanic Park Plaza, near Yangcheonhyanggyo Station. It's open daily from 11:00 to 21:00 with last order at 20:20, no break time, and free parking is available.

They offer group seating, takeout, and a waiting area. It's a place where you can enjoy both shabu-shabu and kalguksu (hand-cut noodles), and honestly the price was really solid — I was so satisfied ><

Guide on how to enjoy shabu kalguksu

Black garlic shabu kalguksu for two: what to add to the order

I ordered the special nourishing black garlic shabu kalguksu for two, plus extra shabu meat and a raw egg for fried rice.

Table setting for special nourishing black garlic shabu kalguksu for two

Even ordering just the one basic menu item already comes with shabu meat, noodles, and five-grain perilla oil rice included, so you don't need to add much else to have a really full meal.

The restaurant is clean and the tables are spaced out generously, so it's great for lunch, a get-together with friends, or a family meal.

Loaded with minari (water dropwort) and all kinds of vegetables — so generous~

They say the special nourishing black garlic shabu kalguksu uses a broth made with Korean beef bone stock and various herbal ingredients, and you also get to enjoy hand-cut noodles made with black garlic!!

The base shabu meat and the extra meat I added came out together! The base set here is already so generous that the value for money is really high.

How to eat it: shabu meat first, then hand-cut noodles

At Yangcheon Shabu Son Kalguksu, Magok Main Branch, you cook the shabu meat first, then add the hand-cut noodles. Once the broth starts to bubble, just cook the meat one slice at a time!! Since it's thinly sliced, it cooks fast and goes great with the vegetables.

Once you've eaten enough shabu meat, it's time to add the noodles! The noodles here are handmade with black garlic, giving them a different charm from regular kalguksu noodles!!

Since they're fresh noodles, I stirred them occasionally while cooking so they wouldn't stick together~

The colorful look caught my eye as soon as it came out, and with the vegetables finely chopped in, it was easy to eat without feeling heavy!!

Perilla oil five-color rice fried with a raw egg

To finish, I added the raw egg for fried rice and made it into five-grain perilla oil fried rice. I left an appropriate amount of broth, added the five-grain rice and egg, and finished it off — and adding in a bit of the leftover meat made it even more delicious.

The fried rice is seriously so good.... and the portion is just right!! It's also close to Yangcheonhyanggyo Station, so it's easy to get to — I'd recommend it if you're looking for somewhere to eat near Seoul Botanic Park!

For dessert, I got to try the plum slush too. It's cool and sweet-tart, which made it the perfect palate cleanser after a filling meal!
