Once again today, I was out searching for what to eat for dinner. Honestly lately I haven't felt much excitement about food, so I was in a "whatever's fine" mood — but then my mom mentioned she'd never had fajita before?! (Such a delicious thing to have missed!) The second I heard that, I headed straight to Taqueros Magok Main Branch, famous as a Magok taco spot.

Taqueros Magok Main Branch has a red roof with a big, bold sign that catches your eye from far away. The 'OPEN' sign on the door and the colorful interior visible through the window sparked my curiosity — even before stepping inside, it already felt distinctly foreign.

Once inside, it felt like walking into a Mexican restaurant somewhere in the US. The seats were spaced generously so it didn't feel cramped, and there were also separated sections — making it a good fit for a Magok date spot or a larger group gathering.

The checkered floor, vintage props, walls covered in framed photos, and even the open kitchen all showed real attention to detail.

Welcome nachos at Taqueros

As soon as we sat down, the nachos came out first, and I was impressed that the cheese sauce arrived warm. I don't usually go out of my way for nachos, but the crispy texture with warm cheese sauce on top kept my hand reaching back for more. (Maybe I actually like nachos...?)

Fish taco

The fish taco, topped with fried fish, was my mom's favorite dish.

The outside was crispy while the fish inside was tender, giving a nice contrast in texture — my mom kept going back for this one, she was that satisfied. I had worried it might be greasy at first, but the fresh toppings on top kept it light and easy to eat.

Chicken taco

Personally, the chicken taco suited my taste the most. It's a combination that could easily turn out greasy, but the balance between the sauce and vegetables on top made it easy to eat without any heaviness.

The batter stayed crispy too, so every bite was so good!!

Mom's first fajita at Taqueros, crispy pan rice included

I've personally had fajita quite a few times, and the fajita at Taqueros Magok Main Branch stood out as one of the most memorable. It arrived sizzling on a hot iron pan piled with meat and shrimp that looked absolutely delicious — I was excited just looking at it.

The tortilla itself was chewy with a nice texture, tasty even eaten plain with nothing on it! (Honestly, by the end I was just tearing off pieces of tortilla to eat by itself and got scolded for it.)

But of course, the real way to eat fajita is wrapped up with the fillings!! Wrapping it with the meat and various sauces made the flavor go even deeper. (That gorgeous sight... I want it again... drooling.)

There were plenty of sauces served too, and my personal favorite combo was piling on the BBQ sauce with extra cheese and wrapping it up! (Just plain delicious...! You have to try this yourself.)

What surprised me was the rice underneath the fajita. It wasn't the usual onion-based rice — it was fried up almost like nurungji (crispy scorched rice), so even though I don't usually eat the side vegetables, this time I scraped up every last bit of rice too. Every single ingredient pulled its weight, so if I come back, I'm definitely ordering the fajita again.

It had been a while since I'd spent time with my mom like this, and it was such a nice outing that even she, trying fajita for the first time, said it left an impression.

I went in half-expecting nothing special, but from the moment I walked through the door to the very last bite, this Magok taco spot exceeded expectations. It's a comfortable Magok family restaurant to enjoy with family, and next time I'd love to try the ribs or chimichanga too.
