First-time mango wakppu salt bread at a Namyangju bakery: Byway Bakers
In short
Byway Bakers Byeollae Branch is a bakery specializing in salt bread, financiers and egg tarts near Exit 4 of Byeolgaram Station in Byeollae, Namyangju. On a weekday drive home, just after lunch, the writer stopped at Byway Bakers and bought the very last mango wakppu salt bread, along with financiers, Shanghai butter rice cake, egg salt bread and egg tarts. Popular breads sell out early, so visit between opening and lunchtime.

A wakppu salt bread hotspot and a Byeollae bakery café I'd recommend: Byway Bakers Byeollae Branch.

Byway Bakers Byeollae Branch: location, hours and parking
Byway Bakers Byeollae Branch (바이웨이 베이커스 별내점) is at 27-10 Deoksong 2-ro 10beon-gil, Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, and it's open every day from 9:00 to 20:00. You can park in the lot behind the building.

I was on my way home from a long-overdue drive around Namyangju, passing near Byeollae Station, and I thought, how could I not stop at a bakery when I'm right here?! So I dropped by Byway Bakers Byeollae Branch for financiers and salt bread. It's close to Exit 4 of Byeolgaram Station, and if you come by car there's free parking behind the building.

How much are the financiers and salt bread at Byway Bakers?
Financiers (small French almond-butter cakes) at Byway Bakers Byeollae Branch are ₩10,900 for a 5-pack of the salty flavor, ₩13,500 for a choose-your-own 5-pack, and ₩25,000 for a choose-your-own 10-pack. For a Byeollae financier hotspot, I love that the prices aren't scary. They're great as a gift for friends, and totally great as a gift to yourself too.

Salt bread is 4 for ₩9,900. This place is well known as a Byeollae salt bread spot, so if you come late, everything may be sold out. Just a heads-up.

After the Dubai chewy cookie craze, it's wakppu salt bread
Byway Bakers Byeollae Branch is the Byeollae spot where people used to wait an hour for Dubai chewy cookies (두쫀쿠). Now that the Dubai trend has passed, wakppu salt bread and wakppu financiers have arrived. (Wakppu is a trend where the pastry is topped and wrapped like a fruit.) Luckily there was one wakppu salt bread left, so I got it! The Dubai chocolate salt bread is good too. On the day I visited there was only the mango wakppu salt bread, but it seems a blueberry wakppu salt bread opened on the weekend. I can't miss a hot bakery item, right?

When should you go to avoid sold-out bread?
I'd say go a little after opening, before the lunch rush. I visited on a weekday a bit after lunchtime, and some breads were sold out, but the one I wanted was still there, thankfully. Weekday or weekend, if you want the bread you're after, hurry.
I've tried every financier flavor, plus the Shanghai butter rice cake (상하이 버터떡) and the egg salt bread, and they were all delicious, so just pick the flavor you like. The egg salt bread is a surprisingly nice treat, and it's really filling.
It's a Byeollae egg tart hotspot, so this is a bakery where you have to pick up at least one egg tart.

Drinks and egg tart samples
Byway Bakers Byeollae Branch is a bakery you go to for baked goods, but they also have coffee and drinks for a light bite. I hear the watermelon juice, made from freshly blended watermelon, is a hot seasonal menu item right now.

You can also casually try an egg tart sample. It's cut into big pieces, and I bet anyone who tries it ends up buying a whole box.

I picked a mix of things and headed home happy again. It's a bakery I always stop at whenever I'm in Byeollae, so I'm so jealous of the people who live nearby.

How do the egg tart and salt bread taste?
The egg tart at Byway Bakers has a crispy pastry shell packed with rich, moist egg filling. It's a sweet dessert, so it goes well with coffee. For the salt bread, warming it briefly in an air fryer brings out more of the rich butter flavor. It's crispy outside and soft inside, so it's great as a snack, one each.
My first wakppu: mango wakppu salt bread
Hello, so you're the hot friend, wakppu salt bread! A friend of mine does wakppu all the time, so having my first wakppu be salt bread makes me even more nervous.

Once you peel off the fruit-packaging-style wrap, it looks even more sparkling. A delicious salt bread with even more delicious toppings. I didn't refrigerate it; I left it at room temperature and ate it the same day.
With that crunchy, crackly sound, the satisfaction is great. I'll have to try the blueberry wakppu salt bread soon.
The mango wakppu salt bread is packed with mango, so it's a direct hit for mango lovers. Buttery salt bread with sweet mango and plenty of chocolate made a great sweet-and-salty combo.
