Chimney Mansion is a big café in Hongdae and Hapjeong that specializes in chimney bread (kürtőskalács, a hollow rolled pastry). I like bread in general, and I heard this is the place for chimney bread with a really distinctive look, so I went to try it!

This is what Chimney Mansion looks like from outside! You can tell at a glance it's a big café, right?! I heard it has also been featured on the TV show Tasty Guys (맛있는 녀석들), so my expectations were even higher. I headed over excited to find out how it tastes. Haha

How to get to Chimney Mansion: close to Hapjeong Station Exit 3

Chimney Mansion is a short walk from Hapjeong Station Exit 3, and about 15 minutes on foot from Hongik Univ. Station. I walked about 15 minutes from Hongik Univ. Station, but it turns out it's quick from Hapjeong Station Exit 3!

Does Chimney Mansion only serve chimney bread?

Looking at the menu, there's quite a varied drink lineup besides chimney bread! Going through it one by one, so many things looked good that I got a little torn, but I came for chimney bread this time, so I decided to try the drinks next visit haha. Next time I'll order drinks too and enjoy it properly ✨

Where chimney bread comes from and how it got its name

Do you know where chimney bread originally comes from?! It's Prague in the Czech Republic! When it comes fresh out of the oven, steam curls up from the hole in the middle of the bread, looking like smoke from a chimney, and that's how it got the name "chimney bread" (굴뚝빵). Seeing it in person, it really does look like a little chimney haha

Is chimney bread still left at Chimney Mansion on a weekday evening?

When I got to Chimney Mansion around 6:30 pm on a weekday, most of the popular chimney breads were already sold out. They sell faster than I expected, so there weren't many kinds left! Luckily the chocolate and pistachio ones I was after were still there, so I grabbed them right away, lol. If you want to pick from lots of flavors, I recommend going a bit earlier!!

Chimney Mansion is a spacious café spread over the 1st and 2nd floors! I really love big cafés, and this one is seriously big and airy. The mood feels like an old European house that's been renovated, and it was just so vibey.

The 2nd floor of Chimney Mansion has sofa seats and outdoor seating. Go up the stairs and there are sofas that feel like visiting a rich person's house, plus outdoor seats. It's great for taking photos and perfect for relaxing for a while. I've already called dibs on coming back on a weekend haha

There's also a self-serve water station in the middle of Chimney Mansion where you can drink freely, which made things more convenient. Noticing little details like this really touched me~~~
