When the temperature swings are big and your energy is flagging, the first stamina food that comes to mind is freshwater eel, right? 🤔 I went to Songnim Bok Jangeo Unlimited Freshwater Eel Siheung Baegot Direct Branch, a Siheung eel buffet where you can have not just eel but pork belly and duck neck too! It's unlimited, but the quality surprised me in a good way, so both eel people and meat people will be happy. Here's my story of this great-value freshwater eel buffet 🔥
Where is Songnim Bok Jangeo Baegot and is there parking?
The Baegot direct branch is on the 1st floor of 43-7 Seouldaehak-ro 278beon-gil, Siheung-si, Gyeonggi, South Korea, and there's parking in the building. It's open from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

It's on the ground floor of the building and the sign stands out, so I found it right away ( ᐢᢦᐢ )

What's on the table and at the self-bar?
The side dishes at the table were myeongi namul (pickled wild garlic-like greens), ginger, pickled onion, white kimchi and green onion kimchi. All of them go perfectly with eel 😋

When you order the buffet you get pork belly and duck neck as well as eel, so it's no stress if someone in your group can't eat much eel.

Everything is fetched yourself from the self-bar, so you can relax and eat at your own pace, which is another plus!
Warming up with bokssosa, then freshwater eel for stamina
Before the eel stamina session, I warmed my stomach with bokssosa first 💨

Stomach warmed, so let's start the real stamina-boosting 🤤 They say the eel is brought in live every morning, trimmed at the farms and direct-sale markets, and sold fresh.

I hear some places re-thaw frozen eel and serve that, but here you don't have to worry and can enjoy good-quality freshwater eel!

The freshness is just wow. 🫢

The eel meat is super plump, isn't it?
How to grill eel well, as taught at Songnim Bok Jangeo Baegot
The order for the fresh eel here is: skin side first, remove the fins once cooked, then cut it up and stand the pieces on their sides to brown the cut surfaces.
- Grill fresh eel with the skin side facing down
- Once cooked on both sides, remove the middle of the back, the side fins and the head fin
- Cut into bite-sized pieces, then stand them up and brown the cut sides

The eel got grilled nicely, right? ✨

Sharp, spicy ginger with mild, savory eel is a dream pairing.

It went well with the tangy myeongi namul too! Honestly, eel itself is kind of overpowered, though~ 🤷🏻♀️

I didn't want to break the eating flow, so the first plate of eel vanished fast, and I quickly got a refill and grilled again 😋
What does the duck neck at Songnim Bok Jangeo taste like?
The duck neck in the buffet was like chicken neck but chewier and milder in flavor. After the eel, I grilled the duck neck too.

Duck neck isn't a cut you come across often, so it felt unfamiliar at first, you know?

It's similar to chicken neck but chewier and milder, and honestly a real treat (´◔ .̮◔)

Since eel is the main thing here, I figured the duck neck and pork belly would be just okay, but the quality was right up there with the eel, so I left happy!
Finishing with buckwheat makguksu: pre-winter stamina food

At the end, I cooled my stomach down with buckwheat makguksu (cold buckwheat noodles), and that's my report on pre-winter stamina eating at Songnim Bok Jangeo Baegot ( ⌯'ᵕ'⌯)
Fresh, thick freshwater eel is a given, and on top of that pork belly and duck neck, all good quality, unlimited and great value in one place. It was a really satisfying meal 😋 You can pick the meats you like from the self-bar without any worry, so I recommend Songnim Bok Jangeo Unlimited Freshwater Eel Siheung Baegot Direct Branch for company dinners or group gatherings!
