Sinnonhyeon hair salon: much shorter layers + Re-born perm, Park Jun

My hair had been getting really damaged lately and my style was kind of in limbo, so I'd been wondering what to do with it. My hair was especially dry from dyeing, so I was a bit nervous about getting a perm again. This time I got a consultation at Park Jun Beauty Lab Gangnam Branch, cut off quite a lot of length, and changed my style with a Re-born perm.

To get straight to the point: it's been a while, and I changed everything from the length to the style, but the whole look feels much lighter and tidier, so I love it :)

Where is Park Jun Beauty Lab Gangnam Branch, and what's the salon like?

Park Jun Beauty Lab Gangnam Branch is pretty close to Exit 4 of Sinnonhyeon Station, so it wasn't hard to find. The salon is on the 2nd floor. Heading up! *_*

They guided me to the changing room. You pick a cabinet and set your own password, which was handy :] The interior is a clean, white-toned space!

Inside, the salon was bigger than I expected. The white tones make it bright and clean, and there are plenty of seats. You spend a long time at the salon for a perm, so the environment matters more than you'd think, and I liked that it didn't feel stuffy.

I also noticed plants here and there :]

What perm was recommended for dye-damaged hair at the consultation?

At Park Jun Beauty Lab Gangnam Branch, I talked with designer Yeeun and we decided to go with the Re-born perm. Before the consultation they gave me welcome tea, haha. I sipped a cold chamomile while waiting for my designer :]

Today's designer was Yeeun! I filled out a customer chart and the consultation began.

First we talked about the style I wanted and the current condition of my hair. I showed her a photo of the style I was after, and after talking it through we decided on the Re-born perm this time.

According to the salon's info, the Re-born perm uses Shiseido products chosen with the hair's condition in mind. I was worried about perming damaged hair, but hearing it's a repair perm put me at ease :] She also told me which products they use. It was Shiseido.

This is my hair before.

It was quite long, with damage built up from earlier treatments and dyeing. I'd grown it out, but it was dry and damaged toward the ends, so the whole thing looked heavy too.

What are the steps of the Re-born magic setting perm?

At Park Jun Beauty Lab Gangnam Branch, the Re-born magic setting perm went in this order: cut → Shiseido care → perm solution → layered cut → heat treatment → magic (straightening) → neutralizing → blow-dry.

1. Cut

This first cut is just for length, so there's no shape yet, but it felt so refreshing, haha

Off to get shampooed, whoosh! The shampoo area is clean too!

2. Shiseido care line

They filled my hair with nutrition before the treatment using a protein ampoule.

Mask on, and swish swish

Just when I started craving a drink, they brought me one, haha. They write your name on it. Isn't that so cute? >_<

3. Applying the perm solution

After the cut, the Re-born perm properly began. She divided my hair into sections and applied the solution carefully. Maybe because my hair was damaged, she kept checking its condition throughout the process.

After applying the solution, it's left to sit, then rinsed out with shampoo.

4. Second layered cut

Now she cut layers into my hair.

I love how light it feels >_<

5. Heat treatment

The heat treatment took longer than I expected, ugh TT

(I got sleepy and dozed off.. heh) She came by to check in the middle, and cool air blew on me for the cooling step too!

6. Magic (straightening)

Once it came out, the curls were so puffy, hahaha. Now it's the step where the frizz gets straightened out with magic straightening.

The straightening and the curl-setting steps went one after the other. I didn't want pin-straight hair stuck flat from the roots. I wanted the overall frizz tamed while the ends get natural volume and curl, and I think designer Yeeun understood that well, haha

7. Neutralizing

8. Blow-dry

She dried my bangs first and rolled them! She set them naturally so they don't look too heavy or stuffy :]

Finally, she blow-dried the whole head to bring out the curls, and done!

Was cutting so much length okay with the Re-born magic setting perm?

The Re-born magic setting perm I got at Park Jun Beauty Lab Gangnam Branch tamed the frizz on top and put natural curls in the ends, so it came out close to the style I wanted. This is the finished look :) (I took it at home, haha.) Compared with my long hair, the whole vibe is definitely different!!

I especially liked the back view. The ends don't drop in one heavy chunk. The layers connect naturally and C-curl and S-curl feels mix to give it movement! Even though I cut quite a lot, it doesn't look too short, and the whole silhouette feels lighter, haha

First perm in 1 year 5 months: overall verdict

Perm done after 1 year 5 months! (Comparing before and after, the difference really shows, haha)

If you're like me and have wanted a perm but worried about hair damage, and want a consultation based on your current hair condition, this might be worth a look. This time I cut a lot of length and changed the perm and bangs all at once, and I was happy that it ended up much lighter and tidier >_<
