Mapo, Seoul handmade burgers: Quokka Bite’s grilled patty

In short

Quokka Bite is a handmade burger restaurant in Mapo, Seoul, where I stopped while I had errands near Gongdeok. Between the crispy chicken burger and the grilled Quokka burger, I would return for the latter, with its flame-grilled beef patty and brioche bun.

I was out running errands near Gongdeok and stopped by Quokka Bite, a handmade burger restaurant. I had the Crispy Chicken Set and the Grilled Quokka Burger, and since I like classic burger combinations, the Grilled Quokka Burger was the one I wanted to have again.

I spotted the exterior with its quokka character in an alley and went inside. It had a cute feel right from the entrance.

What is the atmosphere like for a meal and conversation?

It was a cozy space with photos that brought Australia to mind and a wood-toned interior. The tables were spaced reasonably well, so it was nice for eating while talking comfortably. Quokka goods were displayed along one wall, which was also fun to look at.

How much were the burgers and drink I ordered?

  • Quokka Crispy Chicken Set: ₩13,900
  • Grilled Quokka Burger: ₩9,900

The order arrived neatly arranged on a tray. Eating the two burgers, I could taste the difference between the flame-grilled beef patty and the crispy chicken patty.

How did the Grilled Quokka Burger and Crispy Chicken Burger differ?

The flame-grilled aroma of the beef patty came through first in the Grilled Quokka Burger. The juicy patty and bacon went well with the rich brioche bun, and the ingredients also tasted fresh.

The Quokka Crispy Chicken Burger had a crisp-fried whole chicken thigh patty topped with crunchy coleslaw. The ranch sauce and coleslaw cut through the richness of the chicken patty, so it was easy to finish.

The freshly fried French fries were crisp outside and fluffy inside, making them good dipped in ketchup. The Pepsi Zero Lime I had with them was refreshing too.

What were the pickles and quokka items like?

The pickles were neatly prepared. They had a spicy note that refreshed my palate between bites of burger.

It was extremely hot on the day I visited, and the owner thanked me for coming despite the heat and gave me a quokka fan as a complimentary extra. The staff were kind too, so I enjoyed my meal.

Looking around at the small items throughout the restaurant was another little pleasure. The quokka goods were also available for purchase.

What would I want to eat on a return visit?

I would like to stop by again for the Grilled Quokka Burger. Next time, I also want to try dipping fries in a milkshake. The relaxed space for conversation and the cute little items stayed with me, making it a place I might consider for a meal during a date around Gongdeok or Gyeongui Line Forest Park.
