I had been curious about Quokka Bite (쿼카바이트) whenever I passed near the Gyeongui Line Forest Park in Gongdeok, so I finally visited. At this Australian-burger-concept restaurant, I tried the Avocado Smash Quokka Burger set and the Quokka Double Cheeseburger. The differences between the two burgers, along with the buns and pickled onions, stayed with me.

The red-and-green exterior stood out even from a distance. The large quokka character on the window and the sign suited the restaurant’s atmosphere.

What are the atmosphere and lunchtime seating like?

Australian travel photos on the walls, plus quokka plush toys and merchandise throughout, made it feel a little like being on a trip to Australia. It was fun to look at the quokka fans and plush toys, and there were spots where I wanted to take photos.

I thought it could be a nice casual stop for a date after a walk along the Gyeongui Line Forest Park. The space was not large, though. There were about five to six seats, and it was nearly full when I visited at lunchtime.

What did I order, and how much was it?

The menu was divided into burgers, sides, drinks, and sets. Options included the Grilled Quokka Burger, Quokka Double Cheeseburger, Quokka Crispy Chicken, Nashville Quokka Hot Chicken, and Avocado Smash Quokka Burger; sets came with a burger, side, and drink.

I changed the set fries to a large and chose Pepsi Zero Lime as the drink. The original post does not say separately whether the fries upgrade cost was included in the set price.

How did the avocado burger and double cheeseburger differ?

With both burgers and fries together, it looked like a substantial meal. The Quokka Bite logo was also printed on the burger wrappers and tray.

Was the Avocado Smash Quokka Burger easy to eat?

As someone who likes avocado, this was the item I had looked forward to most. Large avocado pieces were cut into it, making it easier to eat than I expected, with a rich and soft flavor. It was generously filled with tomato, lettuce, and bacon as well.

However, someone with a small mouth like mine would need to open wide to eat it in one bite. It was filling thanks to the substantial ingredients, but it was not a burger that was easy to eat in one bite.

What did the Quokka Double Cheeseburger taste like?

The double cheeseburger had distinct patty and cheese flavors. The meatiness and rich cheese came through first, followed by the sauce. It tasted a little heavier than the avocado burger, so I thought it would suit anyone who enjoys the flavor of the patty.

The bun was especially memorable. It was soft while holding the fillings together well, so the burger felt well balanced as I ate it.

Did the fries and pickled onions go well with the burgers?

The fries were thick-cut, and they went well with the burgers when eaten warm. The purple pickled onions served on the side were memorable too. Adding some between bites of burger seemed to cut the richness and refresh my palate.

The soft, rich avocado burger suited my taste better. Both burgers had a good combination of buns and fillings, and I was satisfied with the pickled onions alongside them. Still, it is worth keeping in mind that seating is compact and was nearly full at lunchtime during my visit.
