Where Mayway is and where to park near Cheomdan Lotte Mart
Mayway is a new Chinese restaurant on Cheomdangangbyeon-ro 87beon-gil, near the Cheomdan Lotte Mart in Gwangju. Since it's right off the road, roadside parking is easy even at lunchtime, and there's also an alley behind the building you can use, so it's convenient if you're driving over~

Opening event: tangsuyuk for 1,000 won with two draft beers
A sign that catches your eye from far away! There was a huge opening event banner hanging at the entrance.
🚩Order two draft beers and get tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) for just ₩1,000!! There's no way I could pass this up 🍺 And on top of that, a ₩500,000 cash referral event!!
The amazing thing is that Mayway's jjajang, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk set is only ₩12,900~ For someone like me who can never decide, this might be the best restaurant ever~~

Inside Mayway: the room and QR code ordering
As expected of a new hot spot, the interior is really clean and spacious. Each table is set up with vinegar, soy sauce, and red pepper flakes, and the ordering system is super smart too. Scan the QR code and the whole menu pops up on your phone, so I finished ordering with no trouble 👍

Why order the handmade sujebi jjamppong at Mayway?
We ordered the handmade sujebi (hand-torn dough) jjamppong!! It was spicy and really delicious!! Actually I was going to get the seafood scorched-rice soup, but I got tempted after seeing an SNS short, and the visual of that basin-sized red broth pulled me in without hesitation.

Mayway's self-serve bar: fresh scallion kimchi and free rice
At Mayway, side dishes are all self-serve — not just pickled radish, onion, black bean sauce, and macaroni salad, but they also have fresh scallion kimchi prepared. This scallion kimchi is genuinely amazing — it's the perfect kick that cuts right through any richness!!
And next to it there's a big rice cooker so you can help yourself to warm rice, which is another top-tier value point. The rice is a bit on the firm side, so it's great for dunking in the broth or mixing in~~

And the draft beer is Hanmac!!!! Of all the domestic drafts, Hanmac is my favorite~~

What does Mayway's handmade sujebi jjamppong taste like in a basin bowl for 2–3?
Finally, the main dish I'd been waiting for, the handmade sujebi jjamppong, showed up!! Since it's for 2–3 people, it comes in a basin-sized bowl, and the smoky broth flavor that hits you is seriously incredible~ It might look like mala tang but it's absolutely not — the deep charm of jjamppong is very much alive in this!
The broth is packed with curly fish cake skewers, king oyster mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, and water dropwort, so much so that you can't tell if it's shabu-shabu or jjamppong — the ingredients are that generous~~ On top of that, it comes with a plate of beef brisket and mung bean sprouts as part of the set, and cooking it all in the cool restaurant makes for an absolutely superb broth!

While the sujebi dough was cooking in the broth, they also added extra mung bean sprouts, dropping in more and more.
They use a self-made noodle method to keep the noodle's chewiness alive, and their own carefully stir-fried black bean sauce, so a deep umami and smoky flavor is soaked all through the broth.

Was the 1,000-won tangsuyuk any good?
Delicious tangsuyuk~~ It was even more delicious because it was packed full of meat inside!

Free fresh noodles at the end of the jjamppong
And this isn't even the end!!!!! You don't just eat the vegetables and meat shabu-style — at the end, if you ask for noodles, they immediately bring out freshly boiled fresh noodles on the house.
Even when I was already full, dipping those noodles in the deeply-simmered broth and topping them with a piece of that tangy fresh scallion kimchi meant I couldn't put my spoon down~~ With the deep smoky flavor you could really feel from a chef with 30 years of experience, plus such kind service, Mayway was truly touching!! If you're craving delicious, spicy Chinese food around Cheomdangangbyeon-ro, go visit and you'll be totally satisfied~~ Thanks for another great meal today!
