Daegu Korean pub for grilled pork feet: Juyukjeom

In short

Juyukjeom Gyodong Main Branch is a Korean pub in Jung-gu, Daegu, serving grilled pork feet and potato chicken feet in a retro setting. I tried the chewy black grilled pork feet for 14,900 won and tender cheese-topped chicken feet for 19,900 won. Verdict: a wonderfully satisfying, friendly stop for an unusual Daegu meal.

Today, I found a Dongseong-ro restaurant that looked so delicious, so I made a reservation through Naver Place and headed over right away.

Food from a visit to Juyukjeom in Dongseong-ro

Juyukjeom Gyodong Main Branch near Jungangno Station

Juyukjeom Gyodong Main Branch (주육점 교동 본점) is close to the subway, so it is very easy to get to. Exit 3 of Jungangno Station is the closest exit.

Even the exterior had such a strong retro feel that it immediately felt like a Dongseong-ro local favorite.

And the cat in front of the restaurant!! It seems Juyukjeom looks after its food, because it was hanging around outside. It must be used to people—it did not run away, so I got to pet it. So, so cute...

The interior was just as retro as the exterior. The mother-of-pearl cabinet made me think of my grandmother's house, so it felt cozy and familiar!!

There is a TV inside, so you can watch baseball games too. I think it would be a great place to visit on a day with a baseball or football match!

There were outdoor tables in front of the restaurant, and they belong to Juyukjeom too! The weather was absolutely lovely on the day we visited, so some people were enjoying the outdoor-drinking atmosphere. Recommended if you are looking for an outdoor drinking spot in Dongseong-ro!!

High chairs are available, so it seems like a good place for a family meal with children. The retro atmosphere also makes it a great choice for a date, gathering, or work dinner! There were tissues and hair ties at the table, and I thought having hair ties too was such a thoughtful touch.

Menu and self-service bar

The menu includes red pork, black pork, red squid, Grandma's potato chicken feet, black grilled pork feet, and red grilled pork feet. From 11:00 to 15:00, there are great-value lunch specials: a pork set meal, black pork set meal, and red squid set meal. You can get one serving of steamed rice and unlimited soup refills, so keep that in mind!

Side dishes include kimchi-mal-i noodles (noodles in chilled kimchi broth), spicy mixed noodles, egg noodles, giant steamed egg, and soybean paste stew.

They were also running a Naver receipt-review event: one review gets soybean paste stew, two reviews get grilled pork feet, and four reviews get two servings of grilled pork feet. I already loved that the water was barley tea. The basic sides were pickled onions and kimchi soup.

They told us to pick up the other basic sides from the self-service bar, so I made sure to load up. The kitchen-side window was transparent, and I could see meat turning and grilling inside this drum-like container. Wow, how fascinating!! It looked like it would cook the meat really evenly.

My first chewy black grilled pork feet

Honestly, it would not be an exaggeration to say I came to Juyukjeom because I was curious about these grilled pork feet. Pork feet I had wanted to try so, so badly!!! They told me this was a spicy sauce, so I could dip into it if I like spicy food. The meat was incredibly chewy and springy, with such a great texture! The seasoning was savory and salty too, the kind of flavor that keeps you reaching back for more. It was my first time having grilled pork feet, so I was half nervous and half excited, but wow... it was so delicious that I was genuinely amazed.

It was so good that the drinks just went down and down!

I also loved that they put it over a burner, so we could enjoy it warm until the very end.

I had been craving chicken feet so, so much lately, so I ordered them immediately when I saw that Juyukjeom sells them too. They said the chicken feet would take a little while, and they arrived just as we were getting through more of the grilled pork feet. The dish comes with chicken feet, perilla leaves, cheese, and potatoes. The cheese on top stretched beautifully, and I loved that they gave such a generous amount of it. I tried the chicken feet first, and wow—they were tender and incredibly soft!! They really know how to make chicken feet here too...

The seasoning felt slightly spicy, but the cheese mellowed out the heat. The combination with cheese is absolutely brilliant...

They told us this was a mayonnaise-sesame-oil sauce and that it was delicious for dipping the chicken feet. For anyone who wants more heat, they said to dip them in the Joksimdang sauce. Chicken feet and sesame oil... ? I had never tried that combination, so I could not picture it, but the extra nuttiness made it quite delicious?? It was oddly addictive, the kind of taste that keeps you reaching back for more. I thought it would be a shame to have chicken feet without steamed egg, so I ordered the giant steamed egg.

It was nutty from the cheese, and the corn kernels gave it such a nice popping texture. It paired so well with the chicken feet that we finished it in no time.

They apologized that the chicken feet came out late and brought us drinks on the house. They even gave us cups of ice, which I thought was so thoughtful. And the staff were truly, truly kind! Every single staff member was friendly, so I felt comfortable and happy throughout the meal.

The potatoes were grilled crispy, and they went amazingly well with the chicken feet. Please try them together—potatoes, chicken feet, and cheese! Seriously, it is incredible... As we were nearing the end, they told us to mash the potatoes and eat them together.

There was deodorizer at the entrance. This was the most delicious restaurant I have had in Dongseong-ro, so I am absolutely coming back next time I am in the area! The staff were kind too, so I completely, completely recommend it.
