Bukchon lasagna and pizza for an interview celebration: Low Five

In short

Low Five Anguk is a pizza and lasagna restaurant on Bukchon-ro in Jongno, Seoul, near Anguk Station Exit 2. To celebrate a friend's birthday and a job interview, the writer walked in with no wait on a holiday-week evening and ordered a corn and pepperoni half-and-half pizza, the Low Five lasagna and a Blanc beer; by around 5:30 pm Low Five Anguk was almost full. Verdict: one pizza plus the limited-quantity lasagna was far more satisfying than two pizzas.

Today we celebrated a friend's birthday and my interview at Low Five Anguk, a Bukchon restaurant famous for its pizza. The pizza was great, but true to its reputation, the Low Five lasagna was what really stood out.

My friend and I both let out a happy sigh at the first bite, and I could see why so many people recommend it as an Anguk Station favorite. People also say you have to wait even on weekdays, so I've put together the waiting info for Low Five in Bukchon based on what I experienced myself.

What was the wait at Low Five in Bukchon really like?

Perhaps thanks to the public holiday in the schedule, we got in with no wait at all, but by around 5:30 PM the place was almost full. It's an easy walk from Anguk Station Exit 2, and it's close to Bukchon Hanok Village, so it's a nice spot for a stroll before or after your meal.

That said, the place is so famous that waiting is said to be practically a must. They don't take reservations, so if there's a queue you register on the device set up in front of the shop or sign up through the Catch Table app. When I looked it up before visiting, Catch Table waiting opens at 5:10 PM, and many reviews say that on popular days it closes early, around 5:30.

Luckily, probably because of the holiday in the schedule, we got in without waiting. But by about 5:30 it was nearly full and guests kept coming in. It really felt like a place already well known to anyone looking for pizza in Bukchon.

Low Five Anguk interior and atmosphere: good for a date?

Low Five Anguk has a clean, stylish feel with a wood-toned interior and comfortably spaced tables. The wood tones gave it a warm feeling, and the spacing between tables was fairly generous.

A fairly high share of the guests were couples on dates. After the meal, my friend actually said, "I'll have to come back when I get a girlfriend," and saved it on Naver Map right away.

So I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a date spot too. Ordering was convenient, done through the QR code next to the table.

Beyond pizza there are pasta, lasagna, fried rice and more, so the choice is pretty wide.

Corn and pepperoni half-and-half pizza

At Low Five Anguk, we ordered the pizza half-and-half, corn pizza on one side and pepperoni on the other. It has 6 slices, each one big and generously covered in cheese, so it was quite filling.

The look of it when it arrived was striking. It comes in 6 slices, but they were bigger than I expected, and with plenty of cheese on top it filled me up more than it looked like it would. The corn pizza especially stood out.

The lightly charred corn gives off a subtle smoky aroma, and sweet corn with salty cheese is a really good combination. The dough was chewy and the sauce well balanced, so I understood why it's recommended as a Low Five Bukchon signature.

I wanted to order a whole pizza of just corn next time. The pepperoni on the other half was excellent too.

The pepperoni side of the half-and-half pizza

It had that savory pepperoni flavor, and with hot sauce on the side it got a spicy kick, so I kept reaching for another slice without getting tired of it.

It was a really good match with beer, too.

I ordered a Blanc beer and my friend chose a Zero Coke, and with the pizza it was even more satisfying.

Low Five lasagna: why it beat my expectations

The star of the day at Low Five Anguk was the Low Five lasagna. It came out so hot you could burn your hand on the plate, and the thick, rich meat sauce and cheese stayed in my memory more than the pizza.

It was honestly the dish I'd been looking forward to most before the visit, and it exceeded my expectations. It had that freshness of food just made, the lasagna sheets were cooked nicely soft, and the balance of meat and sauce was excellent.

The sauce is very thick and rich, so every bite was satisfying. With the savory cheese and the deep flavor of the meat sauce, I understood why people say you must try the Low Five lasagna.

Two pizzas vs. one pizza + lasagna

I'd originally thought about ordering a second pizza, but my friend recommended the lasagna, and it turned out to be a really good choice. Personally, one pizza plus lasagna was far more satisfying than two pizzas.

On top of that, I hear the lasagna is served in limited quantities, so if you visit, I recommend ordering it too.

Low Five Anguk: overall verdict

If you're looking for a restaurant with a nice atmosphere near Anguk Station, Low Five in Bukchon is a very satisfying choice. Besides the tasty pizza, there was the lasagna that beat my expectations, and the mood suits dates or get-togethers with friends.

However, parking near Low Five in Bukchon is difficult and the restaurant often has a wait, so if you plan to visit, I'd suggest going a bit early. If you want proper pizza in Bukchon, it's worth a visit at least once. Anyway, I ate really well again today. 🍕😊
