Sinchon short rib soup restaurant at 10 p.m.: clear broth, Pyeongando
In short
Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch is a Korean soup-and-rice (gukbap) restaurant on Yeonse-ro 4-gil in Seodaemun, Seoul. The writer visited around 9–10 p.m. on a weekend and ordered galbitang (short rib soup), a beef offal soup set and charcoal-grilled galbi dumplings by tablet, enjoying the clear galbitang generously filled with meat and glass noodles and the set served with sundae (Korean blood sausage) and pyeonyuk (pressed boiled meat). For a hot, filling meal late at night, the galbitang at Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch is a good choice.

Today I'm writing up a gukbap (soup and rice) place I visited in Sinchon, which is kind of my home turf (?): Pyeongando Sikdang (평안도식당) Sinchon Branch! It gave me a warm meal that filled me up right down to the heart, so let's take a look together!!!!

Where is Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch?
Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch is at 12 Yeonse-ro 4-gil, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on the 1st floor, in a Sinchon side alley. Turns out it sits in the alley where a rice place I used to love was!! I came to this alley so often that I actually remember what used to be in this spot, and I know Sinchon well! I don't come to Sinchon as much as I used to, but Pyeongando Sikdang is still in a cozy, warm kind of place haha

What's on the menu at Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch?
Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch is a gukbap restaurant with not just soups but also suyuk (boiled pork), pyeonyuk (pressed boiled beef), sundae (Korean blood sausage) and lots of set menus. You can check the menu from outside too, and it really had a ton of options!

Is Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon busy at 9–10 p.m.?
Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch was full even around 9-10 p.m. Dinner ran late, so I got there around 9? 10? and, true to a Sinchon gukbap favorite, it was packed! There were also a surprising number of foreign guests, so word of mouth must have really spread for some reason!
Seats are mostly 2-person tables, 4-person tables and bar-style counter seats! It was completely full when I visited, so I couldn't take photos.. T_T

How do you order at Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch?
You order directly on the tablet on the table. I ordered charcoal-grilled galbi dumplings, galbitang, the offal soup set (sonaejang-tang jeongsik) and a Coke Zero~!
Being able to order right away on the tablet was really convenient! The menu has detailed pictures, and since it's a gukbap place the menu is super intuitive, which I really liked :)

How are the kkakdugi (radish kimchi) and kimchi side dishes?
The kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) and kimchi at Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch were properly well fermented. After ordering I read the write-ups inside the restaurant, full of pride and descriptions of what makes the place special haha. They were quite fun to read!
Then the side dishes and sauces started to be set out~! Honestly, a gukbap place's true worth starts with the kkakdugi.. lol The kkakdugi and kimchi were so well fermented that I decided right away, okay, this place is good, and started eating~!

Beef offal soup set sides and charcoal galbi dumplings
When you order a set at Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch, sundae and pyeonyuk come with it, so the value felt really, really good. The rice came out first too! Then the sides I ordered and the ones included in the set arrived~!
The charcoal-grilled galbi dumplings were packed full, and being galbi dumplings, they were full of meat haha. Even I, who doesn't really like dumplings, ate them happily..

Soon after, the bubbling spread was complete! Just looking at it makes your heart boil over.. don't you get that feeling lol That's why we seek out gukbap even in the hot summer, fighting heat with heat!

How does the short rib soup at Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon taste?
The galbitang at Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch had plenty of meat and glass noodles, and the clear broth was gentle and easy to eat. First, the galbitang! It's what I ate, and there was a ton of meat and lots of glass noodles too, so even someone with a total kid's palate like me had a really great meal~!
The clear broth got easier on my stomach the more I drank, with no harsh kick, and somehow I ended up polishing it off with a bowl of rice haha

A taste that leaves your stomach feeling cleared out.. I seriously finished it in a flash! If you want something piping hot, I definitely recommend a hearty meal at Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch haha

Even the charcoal-grilled galbi dumplings were so good! That was the day I wrapped up my weekend happily with a filling meal at Pyeongando Sikdang Sinchon Branch!
