Sinchon bar to watch baseball: big screen, self-cook ramyeon, Yeokjeon

In short

Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch (역전포장마차 신촌점) is a retro indoor pojangmacha (tent-style Korean pub) on the 2nd floor of a building on Sinchon's bar street in Seoul. On a Sinchon date, the writer and her husband sat by the open 2nd-floor windows, ordered six dishes including galbi-sal tadaki (seared beef rib meat), pepperoni corn cheese and self-cook ramyeon, and watched an LG vs Doosan baseball game on the big screen. With fair anju prices and no bad dish, Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch is a good-value Sinchon bar for drinking while watching baseball.

I went to Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch (역전포장마차 신촌점) on a date with my husband. It's a Sinchon bar with that lively college-town energy, retro vibes and anju (bar food) at kind prices.

Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch on Sinchon's bar street

It's right on the street where Sinchon's bars are packed together~

What is the atmosphere like at Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch?

Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch is an indoor pojangmacha (Korean tent-style pub) with a 2nd-floor outdoor-bar feel, retro decor and private rooms. The walls are covered with photos of old singers and vintage posters, so my husband and I had a lot of fun looking around and reminiscing.

2nd-floor window seats with an open-air street-bar feel

The big highlight here is the window seats! We sat right by the window, and since it's on the 2nd floor, with the windows wide open you get a cool breeze and a view down over the Sinchon street~~ Even though it's an indoor pub, it really felt like drinking at an outdoor pojangmacha (yajang).

Private room for group gatherings

There's a private space at the back, so it's perfect for department gatherings, birthday parties and company dinners! It has a hideout feel, and I wanted to come back with friends. I figured you could chat as loudly as you like without being heard outside, which sounds great.

How much is the anju at Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch?

The two of us ordered galbi-sal tadaki for ₩24,900, pepperoni corn cheese for ₩9,900, self-cook instant ramyeon for ₩5,500, iced tea peaches for ₩7,900, cheese egg roll for ₩14,900, and plump sausage and fries for ₩12,900. Honestly it was way too much for two people, but there were so many varied, tasty dishes! The prices are so kind that it's easy to order a bit of everything.

Cold draft beer at Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch

Ice-cold draft beer! This place is a beer hotspot.

First anju: pepperoni corn cheese, ₩9,900

The first dish we ordered was the pepperoni corn cheese (₩9,900). It's loaded with cheese, so it's perfect with beer.

My husband's pick: galbi-sal tadaki, ₩24,900

And my husband's pick! The galbi-sal tadaki (₩24,900) comes with shredded perilla leaves and wasabi, and eaten together with the sliced onions underneath, it isn't greasy at all, just really nutty and delicious~

I love cream draft beer, and when that soft foam hits your mouth along with the cheese-packed corn cheese, it's just so good~ The little bits of pepperoni go well with it too, haha. It was my first time trying this dish and it was a perfect match.

Yeokjeon Highball, not too sweet

I love highballs and try one wherever I go, and Yeokjeon Pojangmacha's own Yeokjeon Highball is not too sweet and really tasty. If you like highballs, definitely order one~~~

How does the self-cook ramyeon work at Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch?

The "Do-it-yourself instant ramyeon" (₩5,500) is self-cook ramyeon: you drop scallions and an egg into a aluminum pot and boil it yourself until it's bubbling. The spicy ramyeon was the perfect way to finish a drinking session. Ladled into a nostalgic aluminum bowl, it adds even more pojangmacha charm~ They also add broth and green onions instead of plain water, so maybe that's why it tasted better than usual ramyeon, haha

Light anju: plump sausages and fries, ₩12,900

The plump sausage and fries (₩12,900) has a cute name, and I recommend it as a light anju. It looked so cute too~

Palate cleanser: iced tea with yellow peaches, ₩7,900

Canned yellow peaches are my favorite palate cleanser~~ and I was surprised that Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch serves them as iced tea peaches (₩7,900)! After greasy anju, sweet, cold peaches with a refreshing broth made the drinks go down so easily!

Last anju: cheese rolled omelet, ₩14,900

Now the last anju!! I went ahead and ordered the bar must-have, cheese egg roll (₩14,900), and it came out on a piping hot iron plate, soft, nutty and really delicious~

The cheese in the egg roll was packed in too ~~~~~ much.

Is there a bar in Sinchon where you can watch baseball?

Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch has a big screen on one side, so it's really nice for drinking draft beer or highballs while watching baseball or other sports.

Big screen in the bar showing a baseball broadcast

I'm an "LG newbie fan" (elinee), so I was so happy to watch baseball here!! It was an LG vs Doosan game day, and since both teams are based in Seoul, the customers' opposite reactions as the game went on were funny to watch! I'll have to come back for postseason baseball.

Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch at a glance

  • Kind anju prices
  • Retro vibes and pojangmacha feel
  • 2nd-floor window seats with an outdoor-bar feel
  • Big screen for watching sports
  • Group-friendly Sinchon bar with a private room

I tried a lot of dishes today and not one was bad. If you want a cool outdoor-bar feel and a good-value drink with friends in Sinchon, I highly recommend Yeokjeon Pojangmacha Sinchon Branch!
