Mangpo Station Korean BBQ: pork belly & wild garlic wraps, Olheun Gogi
In short
Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch (옳은고기 수원본점) is a Korean BBQ restaurant near Exit 6 of Mangpo Station in Suwon, where staff grill 1+ grade Korean Handon pork for you. On a weekend evening the writer's family ordered the Olheun pork set (118,000 won), which includes yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) and steamed egg, added bibim naengmyeon and mul naengmyeon, and found the mustard leaf kimchi and myeongi (pickled wild garlic leaf) side dishes especially memorable. Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch suits days when you want to relax and talk instead of minding the grill.

On a weekend evening, I suddenly wanted really good meat. I was wondering where to take my family, and settled on Olheun Gogi Suwon Main Branch near Mangpo Station, which has great reviews and is known for grilling the meat for you.
There are so many BBQ places these days, but not many use good meat and also grill it so you eat it at its best. Short version: this visit was really satisfying. What I remember most is that we could talk with the family and eat comfortably, instead of frantically grilling.
What are the exterior and atmosphere of Olheun Gogi like?
Olheun Gogi has a black exterior that gives a modern take on a hanok (traditional Korean house), so it stands out from afar when you walk from Exit 6 of Mangpo Station. It felt a bit more upscale and calm than a typical franchise BBQ place, and with the evening lighting, the outside alone gave off a good-restaurant vibe.

The first thing I noticed at the entrance was how clean and well kept it was. At a restaurant you're visiting for the first time, that matters more than you'd think, and Olheun Gogi made a good first impression.

A spacious, clean interior
The interior was much bigger than I expected, and the tables were spaced generously, so it never felt cramped. It was a weekend evening and busy, but it felt lively rather than noisy.

The walls had displays explaining the meat they use. Places that sell good meat are usually proud of it, and this one is no exception. Reading about the meat got me even more excited.

Premium Hanwoo-grade pork and wagyu
Olheun Gogi is known for Hanwoo 1+ grade pork and premium wagyu. Good meat starts with good raw ingredients. You can tell the difference even before it hits the grill.
Is it good for kids and family dinners?
Olheun Gogi has baby chairs for guests with young children, and there were plenty of families there. It looks like a good choice if you're searching for a family dinner spot.

A self-service bar with a coffee machine
The self-service bar has a coffee machine, drinks and even ice, which is nice to use after the meal. It seems like a small thing, but facilities like this definitely raise satisfaction.

What side dishes come with the meal?
The basic table setting at Olheun Gogi came neatly laid out with side dishes that go well with meat: mustard leaf kimchi, myeongi namul, white kimchi, seasoned lettuce salad, jangajji (pickled vegetables), garlic, wasabi and ssamjang (dipping paste).

Not a single side dish is an afterthought
Tasting them one by one, none of them felt slapped together. The seasoned lettuce salad in particular had a nicely sweet-and-sour dressing that got my appetite going. My excitement was already up before the meat arrived.

The mustard leaf kimchi was a standout
Personally, my favorite side dish was the mustard leaf kimchi (gat-kimchi). It was fermented just enough, with a sharp aroma and deep savoriness, and it went really well with the pork belly. It felt like it cleaned up the richness of the fat.

The myeongi namul was great too
The myeongi namul had a fragrant aroma and a gentle tang. Wrapping pork belly in it cut the greasiness and brought out more flavor. Now I get why BBQ restaurants always offer it.

What comes in the Olheun pork set?
What we ordered was the ₩118,000 Olheun pork set (옳은 돼지 한상세트), which includes yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) and steamed egg along with the meat. When I saw the table laid out, a "wow" just slipped out, and the generous amount of meat made the whole set really satisfying.
The yukhoe is seriously good
The yukhoe in the set had a lovely bright red color. It had the nutty richness and tenderness of fresh yukhoe, and eating it with Korean pear slices made the texture even better. This isn't the token side-dish yukhoe a BBQ place throws in; it's the real thing.
Do staff grill the meat for you?
Yes, at Olheun Gogi the staff put the meat on and start grilling it themselves. The comfort starts right here. We just talk and wait.

Meat grilled by an expert
They move the meat around, adjust the heat, time the flips and even cut it into bite-size pieces. You can clearly feel the difference between someone who grills well and someone who doesn't.

Golden-brown pork belly
Finally, it was ready to eat. The color alone looked so appetizing.

How does the Hanwoo 1+ pork belly taste?
The Hanwoo 1+ pork belly at Olheun Gogi burst with juice from the first bite, crispy outside and moist inside. The lean part was chewy and the fat was rich and nutty. The more I chewed, the more the meat's sweetness came through. It was clearly good-quality meat.

The combinations I recommend most
- Pork belly + mustard leaf kimchi
- Pork belly + myeongi namul
- Pork belly + wasabi
I tried all three combinations and each had its own charm. Personally, the mustard leaf kimchi combo stuck with me the most.
Fluffy steamed egg
The steamed egg (gyeran-jjim) in the set felt fluffy the moment my spoon went in. Eating a bite between pieces of meat felt soothing for the mouth.
Is the naengmyeon at Olheun Gogi good too?
The bibim naengmyeon (₩7,000) had a really good sweet, sour and spicy sauce. Eating it with the pork belly, I understood why it's a must-order at BBQ restaurants.

The mul naengmyeon (₩7,000) had an impressively cool broth. It cleaned up my palate after the meat. I especially recommend ordering it in summer.
