Songjeong night tea café: mocktails, rice bingsu, Suwolgyeonghwa

In short

Suwolgyeonghwa (수월경화) is a hanok-style traditional tea café on the 4th floor of a building facing Songjeong Beach in Haeundae, Busan, and from 7pm to 11pm Suwolgyeonghwa serves a Bammasil (밤마실) night menu built around non-alcoholic tea cocktails. During the night menu hours, the Geum (金) soda, the To (土) bingsu (Korean shaved ice) and the Pungwol monaka dessert were enjoyed with a view of the Songjeong sea at night and the Beach Train passing by. If you pick just one, the To (土) bingsu made with hojicha, rice and malt cream is the standout at Suwolgyeonghwa.

I visited Suwolgyeonghwa (수월경화), famous for its beautiful ocean view over Songjeong Beach and its wide range of leaf teas, traditional teas and desserts! ✨ This time I went to try the night menu, which is served only in the evening.

It's a leading traditional tea café in Busan, listed in the Blue Ribbon Survey two years in a row, in 2025 and 2026 ✨

What is Suwolgyeonghwa's atmosphere like?

Suwolgyeonghwa is a traditional tea café in Songjeong that blends the cozy feel of a hanok (traditional Korean house) with a calm, refined atmosphere. The name comes from 수월경화 (水月鏡花), a serene phrase meaning "the moon reflected in water, flowers reflected in a mirror" ⛩️

The stairs up to the 4th floor are worth a look

Suwolgyeonghwa is on the 4th floor, and every corner of the staircase is prettily decorated with stylish touches, including photo spots.

On the way up I heard the soft sound of waves, and when I looked, a wave-themed video was playing across a whole wall. It felt like being in a media art exhibition 🌊

You can really feel how well the interior captures Korean aesthetics, right? ✨

Once you step inside, the comfortable, relaxed feel that hanok interiors have continues throughout the space!

Songjeong Beach at night and the seating layout

Suwolgyeonghwa at night has a charm completely different from the daytime. I'd only ever seen the wide-open daytime sea, so facing the night sea was calm and quietly mysterious ✨

A big shared table sits in the middle of the café, and along the windows there are seats lined up so you can look out at Songjeong's sea side by side.

The soft lighting on each table made the night mood even richer....🌙

Sitting there looking out at Songjeong Beach, I could even watch the Beach Train glide past, which made it feel even more atmospheric and romantic 🚂

When is Suwolgyeonghwa's night menu served, and what's on it?

I heard the night menu runs from 7pm to 11pm (19:00-23:00) and centers on non-alcoholic tea cocktails 🍹 During the day, the focus is on drinks and sweets sets to enjoy with the ocean view.

Looking at the menu, each day of the week has its own concept.

From the names to the ingredient combinations, they felt less like simple drinks and more like works of art 📜

📝 What we ordered

  • 🍹 Geum (金) soda: matcha + kumquat + pine needle sparkling
  • 🍨 To (土) bingsu: hojicha + rice + malt cream
  • 🥟 Pungwol monaka dessert: 4 kinds, matcha, injeolmi, hojicha, yuzu

I didn't pick Friday and Saturday because I like those days, haha. I just chose the combinations whose ingredients I most wanted to taste 😆

Geum (金) soda: sparkling matcha, kumquat and pine needle tea mocktail

The Geum (金) soda is Suwolgyeonghwa's signature non-alcoholic tea cocktail, made with matcha, kumquat and pine needle sparkling water. Even the look of it was an intriguing harmony, so my expectations were high!

Geum (金) soda with matcha, kumquat and pine needle sparkling

Matcha, kumquat and pine needle sparkling is an unusual combination, but no single ingredient stood apart; they blended naturally into one drink 🍸

A staff member kindly suggested chewing and swallowing the kumquat first, then stirring the drink well before sipping. Following that advice, right after the kumquat burst, the freshness of the pine needle and the bitterness of the matcha followed smoothly!!🍊

To (土) bingsu: Korean shaved ice with hojicha, rice and malt cream

The To (土) bingsu is a Korean-style shaved ice with a Korean combination of hojicha, rice and malt cream! It felt classy and totally different from the ordinary red bean bingsu you usually picture.....

To (土) bingsu with hojicha, rice and malt cream

The harmony between hojicha's nutty, subtle aroma and the natural sweetness of rice and malt was really.... top-notch......🌾 The sweetness isn't overdone and the nuttiness is front and center, so it's the kind of flavor you keep wanting more of ✨

If I had to pick between Geum and To, I'd confidently say To (土)!!!

Pungwol monaka: matcha, injeolmi, hojicha and yuzu

Suwolgyeonghwa's Pungwol monaka dessert (monaka: a crisp wafer filled with sweet bean paste) comes in 4 flavors: matcha, injeolmi (roasted soybean powder rice cake), hojicha and yuzu.

They're a neat bite-size, so when you pop the filling on the cut face of the monaka into your mouth in one go, it melts softly! It's not overly sweet and the flavor comes through, so it paired nicely with the drinks I ordered 🤍
