Songdo Italian restaurant, weekday dinner: pumpkin gnocchi at Salerno

In short

Salerno Songdo Onesta is a wood-fired Italian restaurant on the 3rd floor of Songdo Onesta in Yeonsu, Incheon. On a weekday evening the writer booked a window table with her husband and ordered caponata (₩18,000), melanzane rollatini (₩23,000) and pumpkin gnocchi (₩28,000); the chewy pumpkin gnocchi and the caponata with wood-fired bread were the highlights. If you go to Salerno Songdo Onesta, the pumpkin gnocchi is well worth ordering.

What is Salerno Songdo Onesta like on a weekday evening?

Salerno Songdo Onesta was quite busy even on a weekday evening. People say it's a popular spot that has been around for quite a while, so I was excited even before ordering ❤️

Inside Salerno there is a proper wood-fired oven and a coffee machine too, so it seems handy for lunch plus coffee in one stop 😀 Next time I'll come for lunch and enjoy dessert as well ❤️

Can you get a window seat if you reserve?

I had made a reservation this day, and the staff showed us to a window seat at Salerno Songdo Onesta 🤣 The weather was lovely, so it was great to eat while watching the cars and people passing outside 💗

Salerno Songdo Onesta menu and what we paid

The Salerno menu runs from pizza to pasta, soup, salad and risotto. This day we ordered caponata (₩18,000), pumpkin gnocchi (₩28,000) and melanzane rolatini (₩23,000) ☺️

The menu is quite varied, so choosing was hard ❗️ It was our first visit, so we just ordered whatever looked tasty 🙆🏻‍♀️

  • Caponata ₩18,000
  • Pumpkin gnocchi ₩28,000
  • Melanzane rolatini ₩23,000

What does the caponata taste like?

Salerno's caponata is a Sicilian-style dish of eggplant, tomato and other vegetables served cold, with freshly baked wood-fired bread on the side. It was the first dish out ✨ and honestly, it was my first time trying caponata ❤️

Eaten with the oven-fresh bread, the Sicilian eggplant dish was a better match than I expected 🤣

Maybe because the bread is baked in the wood-fired oven, the fresh, cold eggplant and the warm bread went together so well 💗 I hadn't expected much from it, but it was tastier than I thought, so I happily ate it like a salad before the main dishes 🔥 The olives stood out in particular, so it would pair nicely with wine ❗️

How is the chef's pick melanzane rolatini?

Melanzane rolatini is a chef's pick dish of eggplant wrapped around cheese and topped with meat, and my husband chose it ☺️ It was a chef's pick for a reason 💖

Savory cheese with grilled eggplant plus meat, all in harmony with the tomato sauce underneath. It has a refined taste that would also go well with drinks 🥺

Salerno's pumpkin gnocchi: is it a must-order?

The pumpkin gnocchi at Salerno Songdo Onesta tastes properly of real pumpkin, the sauce isn't too sweet, and the gnocchi is chewy, so it was the dish I'd recommend most this day. I love pumpkin, so I had high hopes, and it came out so prettily that it lifted my mood 💗

It's a little thick and rich, the sauce isn't very sweet and the seasoning is just right, so it matches the gnocchi perfectly 💖

The gnocchi itself is chewy with a lovely texture, and it was on another level from the frozen gnocchi I've had until now, so I enjoyed it so much 🙆🏻‍♀️ If you visit, please do order it 💘 It's a popular place and you can see why, so I plan to come back again ✨ Thanks for the meal today, too!
