Ham and cheese toast at a Gwangalli brunch café, Busan: Famous Benny
In short
Famous Benny Gwangalli Branch is a brunch café on a side street in Minrak-dong, Suyeong-gu, Busan, that opens at 8am. After a morning run along Gwangalli Beach, a couple sat at a second-floor floor-to-ceiling window and ordered bacon scramble toast with added avocado, Egg in Hell, ham and cheese toast and a lemonade. Famous Benny has no parking lot of its own, but the Minrak Sealand Market public lot, a 1-minute walk away, costs ₩900 per 30 minutes and was easy to park in early in the morning, making Famous Benny a convenient early brunch stop in Gwangalli.

Today I'm introducing a Gwangalli brunch spot that's perfect for a relaxed morning on a Busan trip. My partner and I had one dream for whenever we visited Busan: a morning run near the sea, followed by a slow, leisurely brunch. On this trip we finally made that dream come true. The place I'm introducing today is Famous Benny (페이머스베니) in Gwangalli.

The moment we walked in, I loved the drowsy, warm atmosphere. There were lovely little corners and a comfortable mood everywhere, and I wanted to stay for a long time.
Parking near Famous Benny: Minrak Sealand Market public lot, ₩900 per 30 minutes

One thing that was a bit of a letdown at Famous Benny was the parking! The café has no parking lot of its own, but luckily there's an inexpensive public lot, the Minrak Sealand Market (민락씨랜드시장) public parking lot, just a one-minute walk away, so it wasn't a big inconvenience. When I looked up reviews before visiting, I read that the lot is often full and got worried, but we came early in the morning, so we were able to park without any trouble.

The public lot costs ₩900 per 30 minutes!
How varied is the brunch menu?

The brunch menu at Famous Benny was more varied than I expected. There were light options like salad, toast, acai bowls, yogurt bowls and soup, as well as brunch dishes that fill you up. Popular brunch-café staples like eggs Benedict, avocado toast and French toast were there too, so it was easy to pick something to suit your taste. The drink selection was wide as well~
1st and 2nd floor atmosphere and the floor-to-ceiling window seat
Famous Benny is split over two floors.

The interior is decorated in wood tones and warm colors,

and the second floor is a little bigger, with more tables.

Personally, my favorite was this seat on the second floor by the floor-to-ceiling window, where you can look out at the view!
What we ordered: bacon scramble toast, Egg in Hell, ham and cheese toast

We ordered the bacon scramble toast with avocado added, Egg in Hell (eggs poached in spicy tomato sauce), a ham and cheese toast and a lemonade.
The plating was really pretty too, so every dish photographed well~

In the bacon scramble toast, the rich avocado, soft scrambled eggs and salty bacon went together really well,

and it was delicious when I spread the basil cream cheese that came alongside on the rye bread.

For the Egg in Hell, I started by breaking the poached egg on top,

and when the yolk spilled out and mixed with the tomato sauce, it became much smoother and richer.

The sauce itself was deep and savory, so dipping the rye bread in generously was a perfect match, and the nutty bread with the soft Egg in Hell was a great combination. I was dipping bread in the sauce until the very end, it was that good.

Honestly, I ordered the ham and cheese toast greedily because I was hungry, but I think I would have regretted leaving without it.

The bread itself is really chewy,

and dipped in the sauce it was even more savory and rich!
Why I recommend it for a Gwangalli breakfast brunch

Above all, it opens at 8am, so it's great for an early visit, and it's just right for a relaxed brunch after a run on Gwangalli beach. The brunch menu is varied and every dish was delicious, and with the warm sunlight coming into the space and the comfortable atmosphere, it was a lovely place to spend a slow morning.
