Guui Station café at 9 pm: no-charge decaf, mango cake, Center Coffee

In short

Center Coffee Guui East Pole is a coffee and dessert café on basement level 1 of Guui East Pole in Gwangjin, Seoul. Around 9 pm, the writer and her husband had a decaf Americano at no extra charge, a Korean melon (chamoe) yogurt smoothie and mango cake; the coffee had a slight acidity, no burnt taste and a lovely aroma. Center Coffee Guui East Pole is a good café near Guui Station for quietly enjoying coffee and dessert even late in the evening.

What kind of café is Center Coffee Guui East Pole?

Center Coffee Guui East Pole (센터커피 구의이스트폴점) is a fairly large café on the B1 floor of Guui East Pole, and you can park in the building (supported with a purchase of ₩10,000 or more). Guui East Pole has plenty of great places to eat, and I came because I wanted a tasty dessert after a meal. The interior is well done and the space feels pleasant, which I liked.

There are tables where you can sit comfortably alone, and big tables roomy enough for a group. Center Coffee is serious about coffee too: I'm told the café cares about balance from choosing the beans to roasting and brewing, and tries to make a cup anyone can enjoy.

Is it okay to go at 9 pm? Menu and how to order

I visited around 9 pm, and luckily there was no wait. In the quiet atmosphere I could relax with a cup of coffee and a tasty dessert. There are 2 kiosks in the middle of the café, so you can order and pay right away.

  • Coffee: espresso, Americano, flat white, latte, vanilla latte, cold brew, brewing coffee
  • Signature: mugwort latte, chocolate latte, matcha latte, Korean melon (chamoe) yogurt smoothie
  • Seasonal: matcha lemonade, cherry yogurt smoothie, strawberry latte, maesil omija tea (Korean plum and schisandra tea)
  • Others: ice cream, about 3 kinds of tea
  • Desserts: plain scone, chocolate scone, mango cake, tiramisu, Chicago cheesecake

Sadly, since I went so late, the plain scone and the tiramisu were sold out, so I ordered the mango cake.

Can you buy Center Coffee drip bags as gifts?

Center Coffee Guui East Pole also sells signature blend drip bag coffee. The packaging looks great for gifting, and a nice variety was on display.

They also sell their own cold brew, plus instant coffee sets that are easy to drink casually. The coffee is good here, so I'm thinking of gifting some to a friend who loves coffee later.

Is there an extra charge for a decaf Americano?

I love that the Americano at Center Coffee Guui East Pole has no extra charge even if you choose decaf. When it's crowded, it's better to secure a seat before ordering. Our order came out shortly after we placed it.

Most cafes these days add about ₩1,000 when you choose decaf beans, which feels a bit burdensome. I wanted a decaf Americano since I was visiting late, and the prices here are so kind that it's no worry at all.

Above all, the coffee is delicious. It has a slight acidity, but no burnt taste at all, and the aroma is lovely. It pairs perfectly with the sweet desserts, so I'd probably order an Americano again next time.

What does the Korean melon yogurt smoothie taste like?

This is the Korean melon (chamoe) yogurt smoothie my husband ordered! It's one of Center Coffee's signature menu items: cold, sweet, and the melon flavor really comes through.

Melon meets yogurt? I was really curious. I'd never seen this kind of smoothie elsewhere, so we ordered it, and it's good! If you like yogurt, you'll probably like it. Cool, refreshing and sweet!

How does the mango cake taste?

The mango cake at Center Coffee Guui East Pole is packed with mango, and, true to a top dessert café near Guui Station, it was sweet and cool. The sponge was moist and soft, and the cream was sweet without being heavy.

Mango and fresh cream are always a winning combo. Next time I have to try the scones. I bet the chocolate scone is totally my style -
