What is Café Ohkam and where is it?

Café Ohkam (카페 오캄) is a dessert café about a 3-minute walk from Exit 2 of Konkuk Univ. Station, and it uses all of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors. The desserts are so good that whenever I have plans around Konkuk Univ. Station, this is where I go for round two.

The mood is relaxed, so it's great for chatting, and above all the coffee is good and the desserts are good. The 3rd floor is a rooftop, so on a nice day it's a pleasant spot for an Americano outdoors.

For parking, I'd recommend a nearby paid lot (Gana parking lot, ₩4,000 per hour).

What's on the dessert menu at Café Ohkam?

In summer Café Ohkam also sells bingsu (Korean shaved ice), and when I visited it was fresh mango bingsu. Since it's made with seasonal fruit, you get a proper fresh-fruit taste.

The dessert lineup mostly changes with the seasons, so it feels new every time you go. Of course, the best-selling favorites seem to be always available.

  • Classic French toast
  • Kaymak dessert (Turkish-style clotted cream)
  • Fresh mango cake
  • Mascarpone tiramisu
  • Basque cheesecake
  • Fruit sando (fruit sandwich)
  • Cream cheese financier

The cream cheese financier at Café Ohkam is delicious too, just so you know!

Café Ohkam near Konkuk Univ. is a coffee spot too. Besides the basic Americano there are café latte, vanilla latte and caramel macchiato, and the signature coffees include the Delos crumble latte, Einspänner, brûlée Einspänner and coconut Einspänner.

Of course there are non-coffee drinks too, so people who can't drink coffee have nothing to worry about. The basil tomato ade is appealing too, so I'll recommend it.

  • Chocolate latte, green tea latte, strawberry latte
  • Peach iced tea, plum peach honey black tea
  • Peach yogurt latte, milk tea
  • Hibiscus blend, chamomile blend, Uva (black tea)

What's the 2nd floor like, and is it crowded late at night?

I went up to the 2nd floor and found a seat, and I was a little surprised that the tables were almost full even though I came late at night. There's a good range of table sizes too: 2-person, 4-person and group tables.

Café Ohkam has emotive little objects here and there, which makes it a great place for taking photos. The interior is prettily done, so most of the customers seem to be women. Word must have spread, because I saw foreign guests too.

How does the brûlée Einspänner at Café Ohkam taste?

The brûlée Einspänner at Café Ohkam isn't a common menu item, so I order it every time I come. I love brûlée desserts, so bringing that idea into coffee is unique.

It's fun to crack the brûlée top with a tap-tap. The coffee is good to begin with, and with the sweet brûlée crust added, there's nothing not to like!

With an Einspänner, the cream is what matters, after all. It's so smooth and sweet. After you smash the brûlée on top and eat it, another kind of sweetness is waiting underneath.

How is the fresh mango cake at Café Ohkam?

The fresh mango cake at Café Ohkam is packed with fresh mango, so you chew mango with every bite. As you'd expect from a dessert hot spot, the fruit is real fresh fruit.

I like that you can feel they cared about even the cup. Served in a pretty cup, it looks even more delicious. Ohkam, a Konkuk Univ. dessert hot spot that wins you over with both taste and looks.

Soft, sweet fresh mango! The whipped cream isn't artificial either; it has a moderate sweetness and is smooth, so it tastes great. The sponge is moist too. The combination of whipped cream, sponge and mango blended together really well, a delicious cake.

How much is the Americano at Café Ohkam?

The Americano at Café Ohkam is in the ₩4,000 range, which is kind to your wallet, and it tastes good too! Unless it's a budget-brand café, an Americano is usually ₩5,000 or ₩6,000, so Ohkam's price is great.

You can't eat delicious desserts without an Americano. Real summer seems to be arriving next week. When it gets hot, bingsu comes to mind all by itself, so next time I'm at Konkuk Univ., I'm definitely trying the fresh mango bingsu at Café Ohkam!
